<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dallas Morning News - Even before reluctantly parting with Michael Finley by trade or waivers, the Mavericks have found a replacement.

The team has reached an oral agreement with veteran swingman Doug Christie on a one-year, $3 million deal, a source said. Christie, 35, was waived Thursday by the Orlando Magic as part of the NBA's luxury-tax amnesty provision.

Before Christie officially becomes a Maverick, he must wait seven days to clear waivers, according to league rules. It is unlikely any team will claim Christie and his $8.2 million salary, making him an unrestricted free agent who could then sign with the Mavericks on Wednesday.

</div>Does this mean Finley is def. out? Or could Cuban just want the extra offensive/defensive guard coming off the bench. Well Christie wanted to come to Dallas and he`s welcome, and I think the contract deal is solid too. See what he can do for a year and if shows signs of ageing or anything like that, send him out.

To be honest I have no idea why the Mavs signed Doug Christie. He is a great player, but it seems like the Mavs are set with defensive guys from the guard spot with Josh Howard, Marquis Daneils (average), and Devin Harris who are all young players that have bright futures. I hope Christie doesn't get in the way of the young players trying to develop, if so it's a bad signing. If Christie can mentor the players and turn them into great defensive players then I would say it's an average signing. The Mavs really do need a big though.

We are so lucky we get to see his hot wife, yes, j/k. Well he is past his so called prime and will do nothing for the team, what is Cuban thinking.

For the veteran minimum, Christie is a steal any way you look at it. He will only help the development of the younger guys and he can definately still do some things. I'm all for it. I just hope we get SOMETHING for Finley and get him into the Eastern Conference

Christie's role is probably only to guard the opposing team's key offensive player because he doesnt need to score, with all the firepower in Dallas. He will probably be put on when Josh Howard is on the bench, and let 'Quis or Stack start @ SG because then they will constantly have a defensive stopper on at all times (Christie and Howard).

    Starting Lineup:

    PG - JT
    SG - Stack/'Quis
    SF - Howard
    PF - Dirk
    C - Damp

and when Howard is on the bench, something like

    SG - Christie
    SF - 'Quis/Stack

Christie is a nice player to add to any team. Finley is a great player and has plenty to offer team, but despite him leaving the Mavs just seem better because they can play their younger guards like Marquis (injury prob last yr). The Mavs is a lock for the 4th seed and could take the 1st seed depending how good the backcourt plays. Team is definetely different from the team that made me a Mavs fan, nash, finley, dirk..

Being a Rockets fan, I have to refute the fact that you think the Mavs are a LOCK for the fourth seed. Are you kidding me? With the Western conference the way it is, it is always debatable.

Don't get me wrong, the Mavs are good and can definitely take the 4th, but how are they a LOCK for that place?

The Mavs and the Rockets will definitely battle for the 4th seed. Either way it doesn't matter because they will still play each other in the 1st round. It will be an awesome rematch.

Yes, I agree that the Houston-Mavs rematch will be a good one, with no more 40-point blowouts [IMG] ...anyway I think Doug Christie is too old to be much of a factor for the Mavs for next season, but signing him was better than nothing I guess.

Okay maybe I should have not said lock, the Rockets have gotten a lot better in the offseason and could take the 4th seed too, so my bad man. Yeah it looks like again this year they will have to play each other unless Dirk has an outstanding year and the backcourt meshes which I think is going to happen and decent Center play from Dampier and Diop, they'll surprise everyone with the 1st seed in the West.

The mavs get rid of Finley then sign Doug Christie for what. The last time I checked Doug CVhristie was getting torched in Sactown by Kobe. Then he went to ORL and got torched by Paul Pierce. Now he is going to DAL in order to get torched by McGrady. Who said he was a defensive stopper? If I were Cuban I would have signed his wife to a multi year contract.

Howard seems to be more of the defensive stopper on the team. Besides that Finley's stats were goin downhill..he wasn't stickin with the McGrady's and Kobe's any better than Christie is. At least his contract isn't as big..what I'm wondering is what Tariq Abdul-Wahad is still doing on the team.
