<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The numbers are misleading, and so is the hype. The truth is that too many "good" players are wrongly celebrated as being all-time greats. To set the record straight, here's an alphabetical list of the most overrated NBA players ever. Charles Barkley The Round Mound of Rebound was never in acceptable game shape. But reporting to one Houston training camp 20 pounds overweight didn't prevent him from chastising his teammates for not being serious about challenging for the championship. Also, he only played defense when the spirit moved him ? which was very seldom. These days, he complains about not having played with top-flight teammates ? left unsaid, however, is the fact that Barkley's self-involved style of play did nothing to compliment whatever talents his teammates did have. Over the course of his career, Barkley's selfishness and total lack of discipline made him a chronic underachiever.</div> http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/3882560 This article is gonna piss some people off cough"Kincks fans"cough...
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Karl Malone I've been on this guy's case many times before, and for the same reasons. He found various ways to choke in the 1996 Conference finals and in the 1997 and 1998 Finals ? missed free throws, damaging turnovers, ill-advised shots, losing gambles on defense, and so on. In addition, his passing skills and his defense were both overblown, and his assist-turnover ration was a horrendous 5:4. There are only two reasons why Malone is deemed to be an elite power-forward ? John Stockton, and longevity. </div> I agree with this one. This is my ultimate pick for most over-rated.
I think David robinson on being on that list might be contoversial , but its a fact he didn't win anything till td came along.
I realy don't like the Barkley pick. He was 6-4 and 260 give or take depending where he was at his career. He was battle versus 7 footers each night and still dominating, thats amazing. Then his mouth got him in troubl but he didn't let the media chew him up and spit him out. Lot's of picks are stupid, but I really dislike the Charles Barkley one.
These articles are stupid. There is no way that Barkley, Robinson, Maravich, Hawkins or Gervin are overrated. I do agree that Malone was somewhat overrated and Ewing never succeded and is looked at as one of the greatest centers ever.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Lamont:</div><div class="quote_post">I think David robinson on being on that list might be contoversial , but its a fact he didn't win anything till td came along.</div> It's not really known that you need at least two all star caliber players to win a championship..so he wouldn't have..(unless there was one on the spurs I don't know about..) EDIT: Nobody should be surprised about this article, Charley's a well-known NBA hater (having never played the game professionally himself) and always has negative things to say about Shaq, AI, KG, Magic, and anybody else who isn't Tim Duncan..
The Charles Barkely and David Robinson picks are ridiculous. Both those guys are probably underrated if anything.

I liked that article. Did anyone read the bets point guards center fowards etc. It was nice too. Kidd is the only player that plays now that is a canidate on that list. Shaq is ranked higher than Wilt the Stilt.

Im probrably going to get the heat, but I think Jordan is overrated. Everyone calls him the greatest ever? What about Wilt? Russel? Magic? I think Jordan was the best at his postion. But greatest ever is taking it too far. This is my opinion. So dont go flaming away now.
I have to say, there is one thing Rosen leaves out here: his personal definition of overrated. I'm not afraid to say that one or two of those players on that list is overrated, but I will say that the majority of them have been met with more success than most because of something...it can't just be luck (or John Stockton), they must have done something right. Rosen is at his bitter, judgemental best here, and as usual, that isn't saying a whole lot. Talk about overrated.

Stockon was probably a big boost to Mailman`s career and Ewing I`ve always heard as one of the best centers ever to play the game.
I disagree 100% about Gary Payton being overrated. Not only was "The Glove" one of the best defensive point guards ever, but he also was a great offensive player as well. I don't know how anybody can call Gary overrated. Jordan was some what overrated as well, with the shoe deals and all the media hype that he received but I don't think he is one of the most overrated players of all time.
I agree 'The Glove' is defenitely not overated at all. The guy had amazing defense and offense and was unstoppable with the Sonics. Alot of people hate GP because of him having a big mouth or what not, but they dont focus on how great he was with Sonics, so most people should give him credit he is definitely not overated.

Mike won 10 scoring titles, five mvps, 6 championships in 8 years, he deserves to be where he's put by fans.

So dont go flaming away now.</div> *flamesuit on* I agree that Michael Jordan has a lot of hype and is slightly overrated because of it. If anybody is better than him though, it's Larry Bird. When you look at the #'s, it could go either way. Jordan may have more rings, but he didn't have the Lakers dynasty to compete with like Bird did. If you put Jordan in the '80's, I doubt he'd have half the rings he has now. I still think he's probably the greatest ever, but I often wonder if Bird is. You have to realize that Jordan revolutionized sports marketing. There was no "I want to be like Larry" or Larry Bird Hanes commercials (). If anything, Larry was viewed by the non-basketball viewing public as Magic Johnson's rival, wheras Jordan was proclaimed the greatest player ever by the media. Again, I'm not saying that he's not the greatest ever, but I am saying that he is often wrongly viewed as a godly and untouchable, which he's far from.
anyone who says the pistol was overrated has never seen him play. he wasn't a great in the traditional sense, but changed every game he ever played in. kind of like Mike Vick in football.
