<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers waived guard Aaron McKie on Friday and signed free agent Steven Hunter. McKie will be designated as the team's amnesty player under the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement. That allows the Sixers to release him and remove his contract amount from the team's salary cap for purposes of calculating the luxury tax. Acquired by Philadelphia on Dec. 18, 1997, from Detroit, McKie scored 4,143 points in seven-plus seasons with the Sixers and was the 2001 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award when he helped the Sixers reach the NBA Finals. McKie, a 6-foot-5 guard who played at Temple, has averaged 7.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 11 seasons with Portland, Detroit and Philadelphia. The 7-foot Hunter adds needed depth to Philadelphia's frontcourt and will back up Samuel Dalembert and Chris Webber. "I didn't know I was coming here until yesterday when I finally made a decision," Hunter said.</div> Source
*sigh* It has been a great ride with the 76ers and A. Mckie, he is a good role player and definitely a great leader. I'm going to miss him but the Sixers had to do what they had to do. Honestly, I wish Philly could resign him to a smaller contract but I don't think they will be allowed to because McKie has to get the money guranteed on his contract, I'm not sure though....
You think Larry Brown will try to recruit him over to the Knicks or team up with Snow again in Cleveland? McKie should have some options open, where do you see him playing next?
I'm not sure where he will end up going. I wouldn't be surprised if he retired or something. Is there anyway the 76ers could re sign him Shape? I'm sure your more familiar with the CBA then I am.
well, i just see him retiring. i dont think he really has much left in his tank. he can only play a few minutes effectively, and he basically refuses to shoot the ball. he also isnt the defensive player he was before. if he does play, i dont expect him to get much minutes.
Good luck Aaron Mckie. I wish he had retired a 76ers I hope he goes to a championship caliber team, and gets a title before he retires. Mckie was probably one of the biggest pieces of our team that went to the finals in 2001. Ah the good old days the league most valuable player, league defensive player of the year, coach of the year, and Aaron Mckie the sixth man of the year. Looks like the 76ers are getting rid of a lot of guys who have been loyal to the team, and though I understand the move it still hurts to see this guy go.

I don't think he is ready to retire at this point in his career. He either goes to New York to play for Larry Brown or goes to a title condender to get that ring such as the Spurs or the Heat possibly. He should draw a lot of interest in the market though, McKie is a good all around person and should teach a few young guys (where ever he goes) how to do things right throughout their careers.
Yeah I`m gonna miss him, he`s been with our squad through and through, but I guess in the end, it`s all about business. Like C.K. said McKie shouldn`t retire yet at all, he should explore offers and take whats best for him. Maybe he will join Larry in N.Y. or sign with a championship like team.
Yeah, I wish the best for Mckie, he was an important factor in us going to the Finals and also stayed loyal through the years with us. I would have rather him retiring as a Sixer but at least now he can be signed to a championship contender.
well, i would actually much rather have ollie released than mckie. although i dont think he has much left in his tank, he provides leadership and experience to the team. unlike ollie. but ollie might get traded to new york or something, so.........
