<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Clippers today re-signed guard Marko Jaric and traded him and guard Lionel Chalmers to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for point guard Sam Cassell and a lottery protected first round selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor. Entering his 13th NBA season, Cassell averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 25.8 minutes in 59 games played during the 2004-05 season. Cassell also connected on 319-687 FG (.464) and 134-155 FT (.865) on the year. He was sidelined for 23 games last season with a strained right hamstring. ?We?re excited to bring in a veteran player like Sam who brings nine years of playoff experience and two championships,? said Baylor. ?The addition of Sam strengthens our back court. He?s a big time scorer who is one of the best in the league when it comes to taking and making the big shot in the closing moments of a ball game.? The 24th overall selection in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, Cassell has tallied 16.2 points, 6.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.15 steals and 30.5 minutes per game over his career. He brings a wealth of playoff experience to Los Angeles, averaging 13.1 points and 4.8 assists in 103 career playoff contests. Additionally, Cassell helped lead Houston to back-to-back NBA Championships in his rookie season of 1994 and in 1995. </div> Source
Oh my god, why would the Clippers do that at all, the T-Wolves on the other hand will get Jaric and he is a great player Nice move by the T'Wolves and back to Lottery for the Clippers.

Perhaps they decided that Cassel would help mentor and develop Livingston?
I guess the Clippers have their eyes on the prize because they definitely aren't getting any younger by bringing in Cassel and trading Jaric. But I guess this was a good move because Jaric was porbably going to sign somewhere else anyway.
I actually think the Clippers make away like bandits in this trade. With the decline of the Timberwolves recently, that first round pick could prove to be valuable. Also, how much better than Sam Cassell is Marko Jaric? Cassell averaged 13 points and 5 assists as a 36 year old. He has veteran leadership and winning experience. Chalmers was a great college player but his game just doesn't translate into the NBA. I think for the short term the Clippers have outsmarted Kevin McHale, simply because of what Cassell brings to the team as far as needs for victory and accompaniment of Elton Brand.
I think it s boneheaded, but let's see how it pans out. I'm just hoping SL14 still starts and Sam comes off the bench or plays two guard.. The possibility of trading Sam later may happen, never know what Elgin's thiking..
<strike>NOOOOOOooo......One of my favourite players (Jaric) on one of my most hated teams </strike> <font color="Blue">If you are not going to post something that adds something valuable to the discussion at hand, please do not make a post. - Hunter</font>
Jaric is garbage and getting something back for him was a wise move. Even If Cassell is on the way down. Plus getting a draft pick is a steal.

Jaric it quite simply a wash. The man doesn't have the potential Livingston does, and Chalmers is a good shooter should the Wolves need him off the bench. Cassell is just getting too slow, but on the other hand, that pick isn't much. Yes the T'Wolves are greatly in decline, but it's a lottery protected pick, so if they end up as bad as we think they will be, than that's straight-up Cassell for Jaric and Chalmers. Again, no team really wins, but neither loses either. The only kicker here is that the Clippers took on some salary.
I give the edge to the Clippers in this trade. The Clippers tried to add a veteran guard last year with Kerry Kittles, but because of injuries it never worked out. They are trying to fill the void again this year with Sam Cassell. Losing Jaric & Chalmers is not a big deal because Jaric was not happy playing backup, was constantly injured, and Chalmers is a dime a dozen. The Clippers also drafted Daniel Ewing, and he's capable of playing the combo guard spot. The Clippers' roster is good enough to make the playoffs, but I don't think Livingston is ready to lead them there. Adding Cassell gives the Clippers a better chance because he knows what it takes to lead a team into post-season play. Livingston will have a chance to watch from the bench, how a veteran runs the team and he will be a better player for it. The Clippers also acquired a first round pick out of the deal, even though it's lottery protected, they have themselves a 1st rounder. The TWolves didn't get robbed, but at one point they had a chance to trade Cassell straight up for Jason Williams.
