Suddenly, a caller questioned why Walker was so disliked by the fans' team base. In a scant second the phone lines were lit up like the Ginza District in Tokyo.

"He hasn't done one thing to help the team," one caller said.

But, I countered, "They just went to the second round of the playoffs."

"Well they haven't done anything this summer."

So goes the perception that Seattle's management team is a bumbling bunch of Key(Arena)stone Cops whose jobs were saved last season by former coach Nate McMillan and superstar guard Ray Allen, who was fighting for a new contract.</div>

    Good article.

It seems as if we are the forgotten team again this offseason. I'm surprised that none of our free agents have signed offer sheets somewhere else. I've heard that tomorrow Aug. 16 was the day that most teams are going to start signing restricted free agents. This collective bargaining agreement has slowed down this summer's action tremedously.

I don't understand why teams are reluctant to give offer sheets to these free agents. 7 days is much shorter than 15 days and I have never heard more teams talk about how they don't want their money tied up. Here is the deal, do your research and hope that the other team doesn't match. If the team does match be prepared to sign another free agent. If you don't make the offer you have no chance of getting your desired player, so if you lose him to his former team, at least you can say that you've made an effort to improve.

Otherwise you are just going to start giving restricted free agents too much money so that the other teams won't match and end up regretting it. Last season Phoenix rolled the dice on Quentin Richardson and won. I'm hopeful that this year we will offer a free agent "fair" money and be able to retain three of our other restricted free agents.

Be patient Ronnie Dupree, we're going to try to work out something for you.
