My First question would be, are you guys able to use the Amnesty Claus that allows you guys to save on the luxury tax? I think the answer is yes, but I havent heard anything about the Kings using it. My 2nd question would be if you guys can use this rule, and are willing to do so, who are you guys going to waive? You guys have just acquire Shareef Abdur Rahim, so that means that you guys now have Reef, KT, Williamson and even Miller & Skinner can slide over from the 5 to play the 4 spot. That is alot of pf's, do you guys plan on releasing some of that size? Like I said I havent heard anything and Iam curious.

They already addressed some of the money issues by trading away Webber and Christie contracts, which were long and overpaid. Reef, they definitely won't waive... KT is their back up PF Williamson is their insurance policy, because both Reef and KT have had injury problems. Miller is their center Skinner is their only back up
I dont really understand the luxury tax and all that new stuff (I'm young and don't get to see much of the NBA only on saturdays.), and I suppose there is no point trying to explain it to me, but I'm guessing the kings can sign the waived players, any possible future Sactown players? Ron Mercer possibly? What do u guys think?

So a team can be over the salary cap. The luxury tax is a tax that occurs if your team spends over a certain amount. This year it will be 61 mill. It deters a team from being largely over the cap. If your team has a total salary over 61 million, then they will pay a dollar for every dollar over 61 mill. Eg. Sacramento's 2005-2006 salary $61,911,977 They are over the salary cap and they have to pay $ 911, 977 dollars of luxury tax to the league.

But how does waiving a player help this, if they release a player, how does this help? Thanks.

But how does waiving a player help this, if they release a player, how does this help? Thanks.</div> Well first off, this rule helps teams that are massively over the cap and have to pay a large amount of luxury tax over the next couple seasons. NY payroll:$109,750,463 which means that they have to pay 109 mill in salaries and on top of that, 48 million in luxury tax. If they were to use this amnesty rule, they could waive Allan Houston's contract which is 38 mill over 2 years and save 38 mill of luxury tax. When you waive a player with this amnesty rule, you still pay their contract, just no luxury tax on it and it still counts as salary against the cap. For the Kings, because they are a million over, it really isn't a priority. They can save at most 1 mill... not much. You also lose assets when you waive players and you pay for them to play for another team. The real benefit is if you have a player that can no longer play effectively and you are over the luxury tax amount. Sacramento does not have any players that are not useful, and Sacramento is not really over the Luxury tax level. Hope that helps!
Yeah that helps, I understand now, thanks alot. Someone said they might be waiving CorlissW? Why would we do that? He is a good bench player and we don't need to waive anyone so what would be the point?
They wouldn't waive Corliss Williamson. They may trade him but he is not making that much and he is happy coming off the bench which is rare in this league.
