<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">(August 15) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have designated centre Alonzo Mourning for the amnesty provision under the NBA?s new collective bargaining agreement.

The provision allows a team to remove a player?s contract amount from the team?s salary cap for purposes of calculating the luxury tax.

The Raptors announced February 11 that they had reached an agreement with Mourning to buy out the remaining two years of his contract. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. </div> Source

Not a surprise. It made the most sense and was probably the smartest move Babcock has made in his short career. Ok, signing Calderon was #1, but this is 1a.

lol I'm glad that he didn't use it on Jalen, it was the common sense thing to do.

Who are we going after now? The Bulls matched our offer on Duhon. Bonner still needs a contract, JYD is now a FA, we could look for a veteran big like Kevin Willis...

You can never have enough bigs, but I think we're set. Of course we can upgrade, but adding Willis isn't really an upgrade. With Hoffa, Pape, Woods, CV and possibly A-Train, if he isn't traded, spending time at the 5 -- there's would be no room for him.

Im giving Willis as an example, I think we would benefeit from one true veteran center that is not a toothpick like Woods.

I think I would prefer Dale Davis to Kevin Willis, if he's still available.

Serviceable true centers don't want to play for Toronto, because likely, they want a ring, and we're not getting one anytime soon.

Kevin Willis played for Atlanta last year, I think he proved that he would play for anyteam for a low price. He is a veteran, and he could prove useful for the Raptors as a sub and to teach our youngins.

You gotta remember that Kevin Willis used to play for Toronto when we were actually getting quite deep into the playoffs. True, he is 42-year old but we could use him as a mentor to Araujo - which would suite perfectly due to the fact that both Araujo and Willis are big body, short-armed centres.

The main reason he played for them was because that's where he started his career and played 10-11 seasons at. He played for Toronto but the team and organization has changed a lot since our glory days. By servicable vets, I was reffering more to the Dale Davis' of the NBA who still have game in them. Willis can offer something to the club, but I don't really see why we need to sign Willis when we have bigger needs like a 3rd string PG. All of our bigs are better than Willis and the 3rd PG is important.

    PG- Alston/Calderon/?
    SG- Peterson/Williams
    SF- Rose/Graham/E.Williams/Murray
    PF- Bosh/Villanueva/A-Train
    -C- Sow/Araujo/Woods

That's 14 spots, and 15 including the "?" on the PG spot. I'm quite sure the Raptors want to have atleast one spot open going into training camp incase they spot a McCoy. We also need that 3rd stringer PG(the ?), so I don't really see why we should sign Willis. He'll be a mentor, sure, but if he really wanted to do that, he can sign on a role like Patrick Ewing did.

I'm not sure if any of our bigs are better than Willis right now. I think whatever minutes Willis would provide, it would be better defense and smarter basketball than Sow, Hoffa, or Woods.

Yea you are probably right, but if we get Alvin back our pg situation would be strong enough.
