<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Paxson suddenly has more options, but one of those isn't guard Michael Finley because the former Proviso East star, according to a league source, would prefer to sign with a team that can contend for the championship this season.

Paxson also isn't considering former Bulls power forward Jerome Williams, who was waived Monday by the New York Knicks.

For now, Paxson's focus will be re-signing his own free agents, which include center Eddy Curry and forward Tyson Chandler.

Paxson was set to fly to California today to meet with Chandler and his agent, Jeffrey Schwartz. Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf will be in California for some baseball meetings and was expected to sit in on the get-together.

Later in the week, Paxson will meet with Curry's agent, Leon Rose, to try to hammer out a deal.

''It's important for us to keep this group together,'' Paxson said. ''Our core is young and still improving. We're not at the point where we're going to win any championships, but I'd like to see this group grow together.''

In Paxson's mind, that core group has to include Duhon.</div>
