Well, it seems that Rod Thorn is motivated to add another guard/wingman type player to the roster. I really rather go in the direction of adding two big bodies...maybe a guy like Harrington or even Traylor to be in our every game rotation and then a guy like Doip, who would spend alot of the year on IR, but can be insurance incase Collins, Krstic, or JAckson go down....insurance size is always good with a weak frontcourt...but anyway Rod wants a guard instead of two bigs..so my question is out of the avaible guards who would you most like?

You have guys like Aaron Mckie(who seems to be the guy the Nets are eyeing right now), you have Sharp-shooter Wesley Person...and then you have far fetched guys that would be hard to obtain like Derek Anderson and Latrell Sprewell.

Anyway, my choice would be Wesley Person, only because he is more realistic to obtain then Anderson and Sprewell. And I think he provides a solution to a big problem and that is shooting for us and has been for a while. I think you put him alongside Jefferson or Carter for a few minutes per night and our perimeter shooting becomes much better. And opens up the offense. Aaron Mckie is the better player(and just as obtianable)...but I dont think that is what we really need to focus on that when it comes to our perimeter cause we have Kidd/Jefferson & Carter....so we just need to fill the perimeter in with the best fits and guys that are a solution to a particular problem.

McKie, if he was 4 years younger would be an excellent fit cause he would solve a defensive need, which would be needed behind Carter..but Iam not for sure that at 30+ years old, he still has the ablity to step out and guard the leagues athletic wings like he did during the Philly's final run four seasons ago. Person cant guard a fence..but never really could...but he could always shoot and still is extremely effective at that one thing he does well...its in his blood passed like chuck.

So who would you guys rather have between Wesley Person and Aaron Mckie because they are the two most likely?

Well, both guys are well past their primes. Both would probably agree to sign for the veteran's minimum, leaving us with the other part of the MLE to sign a decent big man(JYD, Traylor, etc.), and both would be a solid addition. I personally preffer Person. He could help Antoine Wright further develop his outside shooting skills, and could be a solid backup at the 2. He could really help us, playing 10 mpg. His outside shooting could help him be a spark off the bench. Unlike McKie, I don't think his best strength(shooting) has diminished.

Is Eddie Griffin available? Sure he takes a lot of outside threes, but he can block shots and run the floor well enough. He's athletic enough to spend some time at small forward too. I'd like to see the Nets try to get him.

I would love for KK to return but has he recovered enough to play more then the 10 or 12 games he played last season. Person is the better pure shooter from long range, but the thing that always made KK special was the ablity to get up & down the floor in transition better than just about any other guard in this league. And alongside Kidd we seen that create opportunites for transition jumpers on the 2ndary fastbreak, when teams closed down the layups or Dunks, so I think Kerry would be a much better fit then Person...but if Kerry isnt healthy(he wont ever be 100% of his old self, so lets say about 80%) then he wont be effective at the thing that made him special(along with his D). So yes, I would love zkk back, but only if he is truely ready to go for the long hall of 82 games..playing 10-15 mpg.

I think the Wolves are working on re-signing Griffen, and I would take Griffin right now, but I doubt the Nets mangement would after 2003-2004, sitting back and waiting. And he never ends up playing a game for us...alot of headache.

Ofcourse, Kerry would have to be healthy if he returns, that goes without saying. Wesley too, who suffered his share of injuries and especially now at his age. The team is a run and uptempo team and seeing how Wesley couldn't really scrounge minutes in a shooting gaurd deficient Nuggets team, I don't know if he'll fit as well here.

Eh, we've had worse headaches and he's obviously gotten his career back together. Given that he can start here, I hope the Nets could lure him over... I think Kidd could mentor him to give us atleast 10 pts, 7 rebs, and hopefully around 2 blocks.

i'd go with wesley because, like henacy said, he provides well needed perimeter and clutch shooting. mckie is a solid player, but i think that we have too many players at his position. mckie will be 33 by the beginning of the season, and person is 34, and so we can only expect one or two good years from whomever we take. its a toss up, but i would have to go with person.

Griffin will be too expensive for us. Unfortunately I think our front court is pretty much set after maybe an addtion of Traylor or another cheap bigman.

I would actaully take role players like Person or McKie over DA or Sprewell. We already have two starting quality wings in VC and RJ already (and maybe even Wright who will be probably the next wing off the bench), plus McInnis who can slide to the 2 spot. Right now we need a designated shooter who will play like 8-10 minutes off the bench and I think Person would be the right guy.

He is a role player, not a starter or even a sixth man a the wing. We already go solid wing players here so I think he'll fit right in.

Goerge Karl like that two-point guard offseason, with Boykins and Miller, so that effected his minutes....and Greg Buckner needed to play because of defensive reasons alongside Melo on the wing.....so I think that played a role in the minutes Person got. Here I think, we could risk playing him alittle bit more than in Denver cause we can hide him at times between Kidd & Jefferson and his lack of D wont be exposed as much...things like that.

You are right we have had bigger headaches then Griff, but that was under different ownership. Bruce Ratner doesnt seem to give Thorn the leech to take alot of risks.

I don't feel like arguing extensively with Henacy over this but:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Goerge Karl like that two-point guard offseason, with Boykins and Miller, so that effected his minute</div>

I don't think he liked it as much as he had to. I doubt he would like his back up pointgaurd to start and be left with no back-up point to play when Earl and Andre needed rest. Towards the end of the season, they seemed to go with Demarr Johnson, who I think could be a good pick up for the Nets too.

Apparently McKie is the guy, and I don't have much quarrell with him. He plays solid defense and can shoot the three, but I wish the Nets would get some younger athletic guys on the court to run with Kidd. Guys like Marc and McKie can't at their age or will be effective. I like to see Kittles cause he could run and gaurd fast point gaurds that Jason couldn't handle. DeMarr Johnson seems he can do that as well, but I'm not management.

Aaron Mckie seems to have gotten a larger offer from the Lakers....he hasnt accepted yet tho...but chances are he will wheb you compare the 2.5 the Lakers are offering to the 1.2 or 1.3 mill we are offering, so we may still be stuck with a hole at the 3 spot behind Jefferson.

Anyway...here are some guys I would like to hear you guys opnions on....

DeMarr Johnson- Decent at shooting the three and proved last season that he is fully recoved from the neck injury 2 years ago. He is still pretty young and is a decent athlete to have at that 2/3 spot behind Carter and Jefferson.

Adrain Griffin- A solid veteran, wont score much but he is a very nice defender at that three spot. He has had some injury problems since leaving Dallas tho...

Lee Nailon- A combo forward, kind of brings some of the same things to the table that Rodney Rogers brought a few years ago. But still closer to the prime of his career then Rogers was as a Net, so you will see more effect from Nailon. If you followed the cross town rival Knicks a few seasons ago, you will be very familiar with Nailon's game, he kind of got lost on the NBA radar last year playing in New Orleans. But he is a nice frontcourt scorer...only downfall is that with the signing of Traylor the PF spot minutes are begining to look more limited...so Nailon will play alot of minutes at the 3-spot which we need but could be a defensive concern.

Casey Jacobsen- nice shooter, he knows his roll as he established his nitch in Phoenix. We need a guy like him to space the floor. One of the more younger guys left on the market that you can consider more of a pure shooter.

Anthony Peeler- A veteran shooter, has been around along time, so he brings playoff experience to the table from his years in Minny all the way to last season with Washington. Nets had interest in Peeler last year, but went in the direction of the younger Mercer. Peeler's career is coming to a end.

Rodney White- Very talented Scorer, good size and athletism at the 3 spot. zBut brings a bit of bagagge with him. And can be a me first type of player at times. But with the proper direction(ie Jason Kidd & Coach Frank), he could be a nice peice of the Nets frontcourt bench.

Iam not for sure how obtainable any of these guys are because I dont know their asking price....but it should be that much since most of them come with bagagge or recent injury concerns.....wesley Person and Kerry Kittles, should also be mentioned as guys who can help but other then this group I dont see much else on the free agent market that can help us at the wing postion and are obtainable.

I think we should get Rodney White. He's still young, an excellent scorer, and not bad at defense either. Kidd's maturity will definently rub onto him, and he could become a great 6th man option.

Rodney can't really shoot the three. i'd like the pick up to be a guy who could stretch the defense.. Rodney is more of a slasher type, and we have enough with Carter, Jefferson, and Wright. I would hope DeMarr and Kerry would be the pick.

Agreed, but I think that you also have to factor in that we dont have any other athletic guys on the frontline other then Jefferson. And with the Nets not aquiring a steady 4 man this offseason, they are probably going to look to play uptempo and once again rely on that style heavily....and go small at times. You cant play uptempo consistently with the frontline of Collins, Krstic, Jackson, Traylor...any mix of those guys you are going to have a slow frontcourt...sdo with white the Nets can go small at times...and play him & Jefferson together on the frontcout, with one of those more stantionary bigman...and create a more uptempo style. So I think that is one benefit of a guy like White coming to New Jersey. Iam not saying that White is the guy I want....just giving something to think about.

I just never really liked Rodney White. He goes and shoots the ball too much and doesn't play in a team game. He's not incredibly athletic either. If we're following the model of the Suns last year, then we'll need a guy who can launch up shots in a hurry and at a high percentage...A guy like a healthy Allan Houston. Cause to me Jefferson will have to be set up guy who does everything in terms of rebounding, slashing and causing havoc off ball. Nenad/Twin will need to run each possesion and rebound and get put back points. Carter is the primary scorer and he can catch and shoot pretty well or draw double. Jason will be the engine dictating play and we'll just need that one guy to get open consistently..I hear the Spurs are willing to trade Brent Barry. You think we can get him? He can catch and shoot very well, still is fairly athletic and has all around skill. I don't think Casey is the guy cause he didn't get much minutes with the Suns. I don't know. Finley would be good but we won't get him.

Honestly I think Adrain Griffin is the only real good perimeter defender left on the market...and Shandon Anderson as well but I have no interest in him. Aaron Mckie use to be an excellent defender...

That was part of the direction i was talking about that is needed in his game. In fairness to him, when in Denver he never really played in a structed enviroment like what they had under Goerge Karl 2nd half of the season(which he wasnt apart of..), but anyway....he played on a young team...with alot of guys who's games can switch to me first very quickly...Carmelo, even Boykins to a degree and Miller can be selfish in his game at times too. I think the Nets enviroment and team first approach of certainguys might rub off on his game. And nope not super athletic...when you are comparing him to a Shawn Marion type...but I think he would easily become the 2nd most athletic guy on our frontline behind Rj,if aquired.

I have said I agree with you nextlevel, my first choice is to acquire a shooter..its one of our biggest holes and has been for the entire Jason Kidd era...but if we cant get a guy who is a DS(designated shooter)...Wesley Person, Kerry Kittles and Casey Jacobsen are the only guys that fit that mold right now on the market. I would like DeMarr Johnson as well, but I dont consider him a DS...he is a real streak shooter...and that perimeter J lacks consistency at times. But I would take White over a shooter like Peeler, probably even over a guy like McKie at this point, even tho McKie is the safer player to go with because experince, you know more of what he would bring to this squad, some leadership and 10-15 minutes a game. But I just think White is a wild card...that I would like to give a shot to with the frontcourt we have right now....he could turn out to be a guy that gives us 20 minutes per...some backing up Jeff and a little even playing alongside Jeff.

I doubt Barry is our plans...we dont have anything to give up to aquire other then picks...and I would rather keep all picks, we have left.

I think Johnson is a good insurance wing to have to fill out the roster because he works hard on defense. He can be used as a situational stopper from time to time. And dont worry he wont be taking away our chances of signing a shooter.
