<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Celtics officially signed forward Ryan Gomes yesterday, making a considerable investment in the second-round pick (No. 50 overall out of Providence College) with a three-year deal worth close to $2 million. The first year and a half of the contract are guaranteed, with favorable trigger dates (June 30, 2006, and June 30, 2007) on the team options in the second and third years. The Celtics believed all along that Gomes was worthy of being a first-round selection, and he reinforced that with his play during the Las Vegas Summer League. ''It shows a lot of confidence in Ryan Gomes from the Boston Celtics," said Gomes's agent, Andrew Woolf. ''Overall, it's a win-win situation. It's a perfect match. Ryan loves being a Celtic and the Celtics love him, obviously, given the solid contract he just signed."</div> Source
Gomes is an underrated player and in my eyes I can see this investment in him panning out for the best, Gomes is considerably good from what I've heard but I havent heard much. After I read up on Gomes I'll give a detailed expanation until then this is all I got.
There is no question that Gomes will contribute much to this team. If not this year (although, I believe he will), then definitely in the coming seasons. A three year deal is no more than this man is worth, and one worth two mil is a steal if you ask me. He will pose matchup problems few teams will be able to counter in the half court game, his rebounding ability is limitless, and he can still run the floor well. I see him being a major factor in a title push in the near future. More than anything, I think he will be logging starter's minutes by midseason.

Gomes will be a huge assest to us this year. Gomes will take pressure off of Pierce by posting other perimeter players up allowing pierce to operate easier. He will definatly help us on the glass. With his body he should be able to pull at least 8 rebounds a game. He knows how to throw his body around inside and get position on other players.

Not this season, mind you, but if he runs with the young guns like he's supposed to, there will no system to stop him. There may be some standout defenders who can run with him, don't fear Gomes' post-up game, and can rebound, but those players are few and far between. It will fun to see Paul adjust to these new players, and I think he will succeed mightily once he does.

If Pierce is patient and works with Gomes and Green he will be rewarded with a trip deep into the playoffs in about 3 to 4 years. With Pierce evidently staying in Boston he should have an open mind and be willing to try anything to help the young guys to mature so in a few years he will have more help on the team.

Preferably as whole as your were in '01.
If Pierce has matured and gets his passion back, we should go quite good I'd like to think...obviously though, it is all going to depend on how the young guys matured, and if they make significant improvement given the fact that they will be getting a lot more minutes and responsibilities...either way, the young guns will only get better, and that will put us in a great position come a couple of years....
I read somewhere (and I wish I could remember where), that this is the most lucrative contract ever signed by a second round pick in his rookie year. So I guess the front office has as much confidence as I do in Gomes to be a solid NBA player. If he can step up and be the infamous "power 3" that Doc has been wanting so badly, then we will presenting matchup problems galore to other teams. Add to that the fact that Ryan can play the 4 without a problem, and you know he'll be logging plenty of minutes and earning this extra cash.
