<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jackson is known for having an unusual profile for players in his unusual triangle offense. In 1999, when he took over the Lakers for the first time, he benched starting point guard Derek Fisher, whom then-general manager Jerry West had just signed to a five-year, $15-million contract, and brought in 35-year-old Ron Harper to run the team. For a backup, Jackson brought in Brian Shaw, who was 33 and had played one game the season before. Of course, with Jackson's eccentric personnel choices, the Lakers won their first of three consecutive titles that season. McKie peaked in the 2001-02 season when he averaged 12.2 points as a starter for Philadelpha in a three-guard lineup with Allen Iverson and Eric Snow as the 76ers reached the NBA Finals before losing to the Lakers. McKie played in the Finals with a stress fracture in one foot and was never the same. His scoring average dropped from 12.2 to 9.0 to 9.2 to last season's 2.2 when new Coach Jim O'Brien dropped him out of the rotation. Owed $19.5 million over the next three seasons, McKie was released by the 76ers Monday and was reportedly close to signing with New Jersey, which would have kept the Philadelphia native close to home. However, the Nets can only offer the veterans' minimum, $1.1 million for a player with 10 years service. The Lakers still have their $5.2 million veterans' exception and are hoping to split it for two players, either a guard and a big man, or two guards. "New Jersey has shown a lot of interest," Rose said from his Pennsauken, N.J. office. "We're just in the process of seeing what's out there and making a decision." Kupchak, who has been conducting negotiations by phone while vacationing with his family, is on his way back and is expected to resume his talks with Rose today.</div> Source
McKie's kind of old, but Phil seems to prefer experience over anything else. Maybe with experience, a player knows to listen to Phil. I think McKie would be a nice tidy fit on the Laker squad, because teams will double team Kobe and Kobe can pass out of them and to a open and waiting McKie for a nice swishing trey. McKie is also tenacious on D and O.
I wouldnt mind picking up McKie. I've always gotten a good feeling from him and would like to see him come and play for us.
He'll prob be fine with a short term contract the Lakers would want to give him. I say go for it, if they can hook it up.
I don't mind McKie, if he's willing to sign for LLE, and not take up any of the MLE. Hopefully, he's recovered from his surgery, and could give the Lakers some quality minutes playing combo guard. He's an ideal role player for the Lakers and fits into what PJax likes to do. I still want the Lakers to go after Watson with the MLE, or have DA take half, and use the other half on Tractor Traylor, or Booth. I would love to see the Lakers pursue Flip Murray, Mo Evans, Songalia, Reggie Evans, and Gerald Wallace first though.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post"> Thanks C.K. for the find!</div> Kick *** jersey switch! Mckie would be great for the Lakers, hes a good player and hes a veteran that knows what he gotta do.
^^lol, it's kinda funny how his own teammate is trying to block his shot. Aaron Mckie would be a good addition to the team, but i'm not too sure if he'd want to sign for the LLE. if he can play quality minutes along with decent defense and outside shooting, i would welcome the idea.
after having seen what Phil Jackson does with players, I'll trust, and give him benefit of the doubt, for almost every player he signs lol.
I dunno, Aaron McKie is pretty shot now ... I know Phil has a knack for resurrecting these guys, but I think he's in a different role this time around .. his focus should now be on development ... and its not like SG/SF is a position of need
Aaron McKie cleared waivers today, and is deciding between the Lakers and Nets right now. The Lakers can offer him more than anything the Nets have left, plus he stands a chance to be the starting PG for the Lakers. Derek Anderson was the front-runner, but he was not willing to settle for half the MLE. He thought the TWolves would be use their entire MLE on him, but they used it on Eddie Griffin and Damien Wilkins instead. Derek Anderson has now lowered his salary expectations and is waiting on the sidelines to see if the Lakers land McKie or not. If the Lakers sign McKie, they still have enough to also sign DA. The only other team looking at DA are the Rockets, but they only have the LLE left, which around $1.7Million versus the $2.5Million the Lakers would pay for his services.

I'm sure you know that McKie is no longer the same player and that he has declined a lot, but I'm a little skeptical on how much you think he has declined. Well he's declined to the point where he barley fits the 6th man label, but yet asking him to be a starter is a little too much. The greatest attribute you can get from having him on the team is that he is one heck of a leader and he brings good karma to the team. And on nights when nothing seems to be going right you can bet that McKie will come in and turn things around for the better. But for the most part he is really a spot-up minute type of player. In other words he's should be splitting time with the backup PG/SG.

If we were able to sign both these guys then it will be a productive off-season in my mind. Especially since we'd be getting both at a Steal of a price. I'd start DA and have Mckie back him up. My main concern is, i've heard that DA is very interested in the rockets, always has been since he almost got traded there last febuary. Hopefully he will get greedy and go for the extra $800,000. What do u think the chances of us signing both are?

The Rockets only have the LLE left, plus they have quite a few guards already, Mike James, Sura, Head, Barry, Wesley, so there would be less playing time if they went to Houston. So the Lakers can offer more money and more minutes.
