Hey what's up FloppyMoose. Snow for Fisher might be something, but I'm kind of in the boat that a point guard should be able to score from anywhere in order to be truly effective. Plus DFish may have something going on with Biedrins + Pietrus. He runs a mean pick and roll with the big guy or a nice feed to Pietrus when he slashes to the basket.

Yes, the little details you just mentioned are invaluable to a team. We always hear about team chemistry, and those are two great examples of it. Mullin should not tinker with his lineup, and let the Warriors build off last year's success.

Paying penny 15 million for what little he can do is kind of like goin into the bar,putting$15 million on the counter and sayin' "Gimme a Coors Liight. Keep the change". The bartender looks stunned-then says "You Idiot! For that kinda money you can get better beer than that!" [IMG]

That is what we tried last year. It wasnt until we tinkered with the line up that we started winning...

[IMG] If there's no such thing, pretty much any Bartender would be calling anyone an idiot for that price of brewsky, even if the Pope himself blessed it and had 100 of the most famous people in the world put their backwash in it. I wouldn't drink it, but I'd pay another million to see who does.

It's just a salary dump. If you think about the last 3 or 4 years of the deal that's already guaranteed, you don't have to worry about that later when you just can't find a buyer to assume the rest of the contract. It'd be like buying a beer that you'd have to pay for 4 years and drink it unless you sell it. Free up some cash so you can make a better decision with the money you do have to get better brew in the near future. Who knows maybe we can land a better choice of alcohol now that we're winning and have more leverage over free agents. I know when it comes to booze, I'd probably be drinking dom and cognac and have it blessed by the Pope himself twice and have 100 of the hottest girls in the world doing something kinky perverted to it for a million dollars. [IMG] Giggity gig.

One more thing, let's say the Penny contract makes us one of the few teams to make salaries match for another franchise-like talent. That would be rad, but we'd probably be thin in terms of the bench for years to come.

    My thing is
1- Get togather a real winner now-without giving rising talent,
2-jump on a good deal if something is sweet, like a young, underrated talent who'd fit in and is low cost
3Figure when we ARE winners-contenders,a lot of our players gain market value, trade interest and then we can make a few moves, with clearing a bit of cap space part of the priority.
4 When we are a contender,FA's want on the bandwagon. we may be looking at sign and swap deals but FA only works when guys WANT to come-either because we WIN or because we Overpay....I prefer the we win approach. [IMG]

The salary dump ideas have merit-but we go into the season with no experianced C,no useful PG depth and we're not gettin' far. If we toss in Murph, litterally spend $15 mil to discard a 6-11 double-double guy,a starting C,and a PG with championship rings,we paid mega $ to downgrade from Dom Perignon to Zima. [IMG]

I don't think we need multiple amputations or need to drag around dead weight for a whole year. There will be an opportunity to improve the $ stuff, without needing to do something damaging to the quality of the current team. Maximizing the effectiveness of every guy on the roster is most important. It's cost effective and is good for team chemistry. I can see a deal for C Atkins or Wesley, giving up a bit of production to escape the full length of the fish deal. I think the Knicks really need to ride out all those expiring's themselves. Who needs to shed deals worse? Knicks can't be taking in 15 mill in longterm overpay deals, then doing the same with Thomas,Taylor,Crawford etc.

I can't see Dunleavy getting any huge extension now. He'd need significant improvement in his game to be above $6 mill per. At worst,Pietrus starts and goes off-and we need to give him some pretty sweet deal.
Biedrens? Too early to guess what his future is. By the time we need to deal with Ike,Fish-Foyle are expiring deals not too hard to unload. We basically look at a few years of paying some Lux tax...but get extra revenue from playoff games. [IMG] works for me.

Early season,up to the deadline,we keep a watch, looking for a team with a real serious need, looking for young guys, including rookies who are being misused ,underused, guys we can turn into assets. We can guess now,but it's just guessing. I think we got some hints that there are no ideal Fish or Foyle or Dunleavy deals that seem to be getting a serious look, and I really don't see us giving the roster plus the Golden Gate Bridge plus a bucketful of draft picks for Garnett. [IMG]

On the whole roster-there's Cheaney and Fish who are at or past their peak-not gonna get any better [IMG]
Murphy has things he needs to improve, and he will improve. How much? [IMG] maybe a lot. Murphy used to have good spring,he bulked up for upper body muscle-needs to work on them wheels [IMG]
Dunleavy needs to get a mean streak,be tougher [IMG] Play smart D
Pietrus just needs to stay aggressive, work that D,and learn as he plays.Foyle can be a poor man's Ben wallace. He does the positive things-but balaned them with too many negatives, being in top shape, staying focused, aggressive but in control [IMG] is what he's gotta do.

Andy B and Zarko just have to be patient, work on skills, give full effort and keep their morale high [IMG]
Baron needs to drive the whole bunch [IMG] Keep everyone happy [IMG]
but also play with discipline [IMG]
J Rich? [IMG] He's making solid progress-just keep it up.
Fish ---more run less gun,and ask Mully for a paycut for the sake of the team,(and Custodian) [IMG]
Calbert...we'll wake you when we need you, okay?

Monta...Taft...sorry bout you guys being round 2. WORK! No Pain [IMG] No gain

Yeah lol. Who put in the smileys, but seriosuly, at the moment we need to see Monta getting 5-10 mins a game. From what we saw in SL, this kid is ready to play. And to top it off he's a good defender unlike this dude we got that shoots like crazy

We were winning at the end of the previous season also... I do not disagree with you, I am just making a point that just because we finshed off the season strong does not mean that will translate into next season. If we have an opportunity to improve the team, dont just stand pat for standing pat. On the same note, dont just make a trade, just to make a trade. If we make a trade we either better be brining in a better player, clearing room for salary or both...

A good point I think. A couple seasons back we had a few semi-good weeks, ambushed good teams..sometimes but really never had a stretch of over .500

This past year, the guys on the current roster came togather and won around 60%,which would have been in the top 1/3 of the league [IMG] . First half the W's were bottom 1/5 [IMG]

I'm all for jumpin on a good deal but it's the wrong time to do some big talent dump that's all about avoiding the lux tax in 2009. We give Murph,Foyle,Fish for Penny and some other Knick mistakes,or hyped up 3rd stringer, and BOOM [IMG] We're pickin' late lottery..............again [IMG]
