Locke breaking some more news... http://www.lockedonsports.blogspot.com/ <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> In other news I talked with Tre Simmons today and he expects to sign with the Sonics in the next few days. If Wilkins leaves for Minnesota then Simmons would be a nice fit for the Sonics. He can shoot and is a surprisingly good defender. This is a good example of how I feel Wilkins is replaceable. However, the Sonics management talks about Wilkins size, his defensive capabilities and his ability to drive to the basket as things that separate him at this position. Bottom line if I am the Sonics unless you are certain that Wilkins is going to be able to be a back-up 2 and 3 and give you 18 to 25 minutes a night then I would let him go to Minnesota. He is a replaceable piece.</div> Would make sense. A much cheaper alternative, good shooter, pretty good defender, local fans would love it. He's definately more a 2 in the NBA than a 3 though I think. What does that mean for Flip??? Probably nothing as you wouldn't expect Tre to get any significant minutes his first year anyways. Interesting how things are starting to fall into place though....finally.
Works for me. People forget that while Damien did have some nice games last season, they were in games where either Rashard, Vlad or both were injured. If Vlad comes back, we really only need insurance, like Damien and Richie Frahm the season before last have been. Simmons is a nice fit I think.
Should mention there's a good chance Gelabale comes over next season, so even if Vlad were to take the QO we potentially wouldn't be short on swingmen.
Yes! What great news. Regardless if Simmons would get any minutes on this team, its just great to have a Husky on the bench for my fan happiness.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting M_Cage89:</div><div class="quote_post">Locke breaking some more news... http://www.lockedonsports.blogspot.com/ </div> Tre Simmons, Rashard Lewis and Jamal Crawford were at the Storm game last night. Lewis and Crawford sat courtside for the first half, promo'd their softball game with GP and Ray and gave an interview for FSN. Simmons was over with the Sonics front office folks. Looks like Locke may be right.
Ya know I was never a Simmons fan when he played for the UW - he seemed to be strictly a spot up shooter who couldn't create his own shot and his release is slow and it's kind of low, too. I didn't think there was any chance he'd be a pro - so now I have to wonder if he was someohow not showing what all he could do playing on a team with Nate and co. EDIT: why don't we pursue Mo Evans? He's better than Damien already...6-6 tough defender, good finisher, nailed some big 3's against us in the playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Roland Hood:</div><div class="quote_post">Ya know I was never a Simmons fan when he played for the UW - he seemed to be strictly a spot up shooter who couldn't create his own shot and his release is slow and it's kind of low, too.</div> He was a shooter because that was his job. He played point guard sometimes (as well as in the Chicago predraft camp), and he was our most consistent defender after Bobby Jones. However, I think it's going to be hard for him to contribute without a few years in the NBDL or Europe, because his shooting is really his only NBA-caliber weapon. He's going to need to play on intelligence now, and that's not something I think most players can do right away.
