More statistical analysis... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Making other players on the floor better is an important but difficult skill that Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge looks for when he is evaluating a player. One reason Ainge pursued free agent Brian Scalabrine during the off-season is Scalabrine?s ability to succeed in this area. While this is a difficult skill to measure, the Celtics worked to develop an approach to see if the numbers supported Scalabrine?s reputation in this area. First, the team looked at the group of 4 players who played the most minutes, as a group, with Scalabrine last year: Jason Kidd (538 minutes together), Vince Carter (424 min.), Jason Collins (524 min.), and Nenad Krstic (435 min.). For each of these players, they examined how that player performed when Scalabrine was on the floor with these four guys vs. when someone else was playing with this lineup. </div> http://www.nba.com/celtics/stats/ITN_20050818.html Seems a little wacky to me. Almost like they are going out of their way to make the Veal signing look good when they really don't have to. It is interesting, though. It makes me want to go look at 82games, but the site isn't working. Hopefully it will tomorrow.
That it pretty interesting, but like you said, they're going out of their way for no real reason. I like the signing, I even like the money, and I think he'll make a positive difference on this team. Those TO and FG %'s are pretty hard to ignore though.
If Ainge wanted a guy with good work ethic and someone who would hustle, I don't see why he wouldn't just sign Matt Bonner. Bonner does both of those things, plus he is a lights out shooter and still has room to improve. Whatever though, Ainge has shocked me the past year with some good decisions, so I guess he knows what he's doing.
Im still not co-signing on this signing because of the length of the contract. If we would have given him a 2 maybe 3 yr contract (final year option), then this maybe a better FA signing. Only time will tell
