I know it's the preseason and most people don't pay attention to preseason games as much as season games, but they are just as important as any other.

The Falcons are coming off of a 11-5 season with 2nd year head coach Jim Mora Jr. The Falcons have shown many NFL fans last year that it's not just Vick who's going to win games for the Falcons now, their defense had something to say and it was nice and clear. The one thing Falcon fans sure do know about, is their curse to have back to back winning seasons, and even though they are pretty sure this year will be the year that curse is broken, you still can never be too sure in the NFL. This preseason game for the Falcons should be all about their WR corp and back up QB's. If Vick happens to go out early this year, they better hope Schaub can step up in the clutch. Also P. Price has yet to show anything for the future of the Falcons so hopefully R. White can show the coaches he's the real deal.

The Colts are the most feared offensive team in the NFL, but when it comes to their defense they are just as bad as the Saints. Honestly, the offseason could haven't went any worse for the Colts on defense, they still haven't filled in the gaps most needed. Adding Marlin Jackson can only be a +, but they haven't made any serious moves for any other position. I will say that Cato June and Mike Doss will make a huge impact this year, along with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, but other than that, you have average players all around. The one thing i'm sure Dungy will be looking for in this first game will be DEFENSE. I'm sure he's not too worried about his offense this year.

    My prediction:

    21 Falcons v. Colts 17

The TRUTH is that, while the games are valuable for evaluating talent, they aren't as important as regular season games. You can go 4-0 through the preseason, but as soon as the regular season starts your 0-0 again. No coach is going to risk the health of his starters in order to win a close preseason game. There's a certain amount of work that a coach wants his starters to get done in a preseason game and then they are out of there. As great as it will be to have NFL Football on TV again, the preseason doesn't compare to the regular season.

Pre season game are nothing more than evaluating players that arent starters to see if you have some talent from you draft picks or what you received in a trade. Especially the first few games, starters only play like one series anyways, and dont actually play longer till the last pre season game. I dont know how many times that teams that are known for losing alot always go undefeated in the pre season. So no matter who wins this game what does it matter anyways.

your right dolfan. Starters hardly ever play very long. But it is good for rookies trying to make the team. Espically rookies that dont go good in practice but do good on gameday

I'm not talking about comparing the excitement and value of a regular season to a preseason game, i'm talking about watching those players that need to show their skills or they won't be playing come gameday. As much as i want to see Vick vs. Manning i'm sure the coaches are looking for something different.

Its Monday's game that holds the most interest for me. I'm anxious to see how the Miami D & OL perform.

I can't wait to see Matt Roth vs Chicago 2nd string OL & Ricky against the 3rd string D.
