<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">August 18, 2005 - The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Charlie Bell to a multi-year contract, General Manager Larry Harris announced today. Terms of the deal were not announced in accordance with club policy.
?Charlie is an explosive scorer who can play both the point and two-guard positions,? said Harris. ?He?s been the leading scorer in Italy and in Spain the last two seasons, respectively, and he played well during our free agent camp this spring. We like the versatility and depth Charlie adds to our backcourt.?

Undrafted out of Michigan State University, Bell, 26, began his professional career in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks in 2001-02. The 6-3, 203-lbs. guard spent three seasons in Italy, where he was the leading scorer in all of Italy during the 2003-04 campaign, scoring at a 25.5 points per game average for Livorno. Last season, Bell led all of Spain in scoring, averaging 27.0 points while shooting 51.0 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from three-point distance in 28 games for Breogan.

Bell was selected to join the USA Basketball Men?s World Championship Qualifying Team earlier this month. In five international exhibition contests prior to the tournament, Bell averaged a team-high 17.4 points per game, while adding 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. The USA Qualifying Team will travel to the Dominican Republic on August 22 for its final training prior to the FIBA Americas World Championship Qualifying Tournament, held August 24 through September 4 in Santo Domingo.

It is always nice to add another scorer to the roster even if he doesn't start, atleast you can rely on him to get points when he is out there.

Yeah, I wondered about him too, he was a big part in the Spartan's run. It's good to see a good player get a second chance in the league.

can you say instant offense. I really like this kid. We was lights out in Spain and played for the US National Team. When we need points in a hurry he's the man! You need a guy like that. This team is really getting international don't ya think? I like it. He will probally get more minutes than Mo Williams we have to wait and see but adding Charlie was a great move by the front office. The Bucks sure improved the team from last year. I agree letting go of Porter was a good decision cause he had no clue on the Defensive side of the ball. Stotts will be better I think. If the Bucks get to the playoffs as a 6 or 7th seed look for some national airtime next season. Guaranteed!!! Count my words.

Bell played at Michigan State in the late 90s, was with them during the national championship run. He's been playing overseas, and had a brief previous stint in the NBA, but didn't do much. Here's his NBA player profile

    Bio

Like I said, he hasn't done much of note in the NBA [IMG]

But he lends even more depth to the Bucks' point guard spot, which is never a bad thing. He can shoot it, and will likely play a little at both guard spots. He's a guy who's been around winning teams a lot and has improved as a result of his time overseas. Can't hurt to have a guy like that adding depth to an important position. [IMG]

Charlie Bell was great when he was at Michigan State (just don't ask him for an autograph.... he's Charlie Bell, the next Jordan, too important to sign autographs), but we would have won it all without him (we had J-Rich backing him up yano). Still, I've never seen a Point Guard bring the ball up the court as quickly as he did... "instant offense" really is a nice way to describe him. He tore it up in Spain (27 ppg), and he's tearing things up for Team USA right now in the Qualifiers, averaging 15.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 2.5 apg so far. They're not playing cupcakes either. Bell just dropped 20 points on Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns. He also averaged 17.4 ppg in the exhibition games, which was the highest ppg on the team.
