Cheeks Impressed with Korver & Salmons <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As any 76ers fan knows, when Kyle Korver is hot he?ll bring oohs and aahs from any crowd. Saturday afternoon, Korver was sizzling as the Sixers concluded their minicamp with a scrimmage against the Baker League All-Stars at the Community College of Philadelphia. Korver looked in midseason form as he scored 32 points and hit eight of 11 shots from 3-point range. The two-year veteran also had five rebounds and five assists in the 128-127 loss to the All-Stars. "He catches the ball and releases it so quick," Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "I think that?s what?s so impressive about him. I think if you?re not around Kyle that much, and I?ve been talking defense this whole camp, but any time you see a player with his ability to shoot the ball he?s got to be on the floor." That?s been Korver?s focus this off season -- keeping the starting job he had under former coach Jim O?Brien. "He?s gonna fight," Cheeks said. "That?s what training camp is for, to earn spots." John Salmons, who played for the All-Stars along with Seattle guard Rick Brunson, was also impressive Saturday. He led his team with 32 points, and added four rebounds and four assists.</div> Source
Salmons is a good player when he get's time i remember when Iverson was injured i think and he got to play alot he was doing better than expected.. I hope Cheeks gives him play time
Salmons always seems to find himself having a good summer league/training camp. I think that this year Cheeks either has a serious role for Salmons or they are going to trade him for another small forward. By serious role I mean I would say Salmons could possibly replace Korver as the starting shooting guard.

But I'll ignore that one for now. Anyways, I see Salmons potentially sliding over to backup shooting guard or small forward. I really hope he gets consistent minutes this year- the guy really has some skills and potential (although that went somewhere the past two seasons).
well, im not going to assume anything with salmons just yet. remember that he was the mvp of the summer league last year, and he didnt really produce for us. i just hope he gets decent minutes and gives us some scoring and good D.
I always liked Salmons. He seems like a great athlete, but I forget, was he injured last season or something? I hope Cheeks plays him alot, hes a good weapon to have.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> but I forget, was he injured last season or something?</div> Nope, O'Brien just put him in his doghouse and wouldn't let him out except for occasional garbage minutes.
For the past 2 years Salmons has had a good showing in summer leagues and mini camps but never gets any real burn during the season. Hopefully with the unfortunate injury to Green, Salmons may get a chance to show what he can do. Good to see Korver and Iguodala getting down to business, we need big things from that pair this year. I think our rotation should be pretty damn good this season.
You know, if AI wasn't so demanding of playing time .... I would like to see a lineup like this once in awhile .... Salmons (point) Iguedala Korver Webber Dalembert That would be a TEAM ORIENTED bunch with good shooters in Salmons, Korver, and Webber and a very strong rebounding team. I believe that lineup could be very tough.

There was a reason why Iverson had to play so many minutes last season- that whenever he left the game, the offense would completely fall apart and the other team would suddenly be dropping points with ease on us without us scoring back. The only problem with Salmons is that he doesn't have enough experience to run the team at point and tended to defer the ball a lot to Green (although it doesn't look like thats happening anymore). He's a good shooter and everything, but his playmaking skills need some work and it would be hard for him to develop them since whenever he's in the game, it ends up hurting us. Almost like a catch-22.

Allen Iverson is a team player, he has came a long way give the man a break. Besides a lineup like that wouldn't work that well. As an NBA team, you play the starting 5 that contains the best players, not the ones who you just want to experiment with.
I would not START a line up like this but i guess it could work at some point. I would also like to see Williams at the point instead of Salmons once in a while (probably when we are deep into the fourth quarter and up by 20pts!!!) I love the fact that Iverson wants to play every minute of every game, it shows his passion and phenomenal heart.
