Looks about right, I was hoping Marquis Daniels would crack the starting lineup this year, but he had a disappointing Summer League performance. Pavel is likely going to play in the NBDL, along with Rawle Marshall. The Mavs are high on Powell though, he will probably take Hendu's minutes. I think Abdul-Wahad is still on the roster, but they have discussed a buyout with him. If not, he'll probably be put on the IL.

The reason i would say we look stronger than last year is because of A.) Avery Johnson coaching a full year and B.) all of our young guys have added a year of experience that was needed. Dirk will have to step up again and prove himself a true MVP candidate to keep this team meshed together and running on all cylinders.

I agree, the Mavs look stronger, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I like Avery's approach to coaching better than Nellie, and he will have the Mavs improving on defense once again. Nellie built a great regular season roster, but Avery is building a roster to play well in the regular and post-season. Adding Christie and Diop, were two shrewd moves by the Mavs in the off-season. The Mavs won't have to worry about Christie needing help defensively. Adding Diop gives the Mavs a defensive center to step in when Dampier gets injured. Having him around, might motivate Dampier to play harder as well, similar to when Foyle was pushing Dampier for minutes. Of course, Dampier was primarily motivated by the money, but Diop is an upgrade over what they had last season. Diop destroyed Tyson Chandler in high school and in NBA workouts, so the talent is there. From the articles I've read, he sounds like he's in much better shape, and has Avery Johnson raving about him. The Mavs also got a nice surprise in the Summer Leagues, with DJ Mbenga and Josh Powell putting up big numbers.

Should be an exciting three team race in the Southwest Division with the Spurs, Mavs, and Rockets.

I was hoping that Stackhouse would be in the starting lineup. I think he would be more effective. Even without Finley, it still looks like a solid team.

See i would rather see Stack come off of the bench just because he is the kind of player that can ignite a whole team with his offense. I think he is better suited with this team to come off the bench. Even though i believe he will be playing at least as many minutes as Christie.

When is right. It's just a matter of time with him [IMG]

[IMG] Nothing was said about the Rockets in this thread so there is no reason to come in here bashing the Mavericks. Spree will just cause trouble, and the last time we saw the Rockets they were getting shellacked by the Mavericks in game 7. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Remember how your season ended last year.

    My line-up

    PG: J.Terry
    SG: M.Daniels
    SF: J.Howard
    PF: Dirk
    C: Dampier

I understand that Johnson is a defensive minded coach and Christie is a defensive player but Daniels is too talented to sit the bench.

No question, the team will be stronger and with measurably better chemistry and mental toughness. Gone, we are hoping, are the days when we have to outscore the opponent to win. If the ball's not dropping, the other team should not be enjoying themselves with drives to the hoop and open uncontested shots.

The mavs are stronger in terms that Johnson will have the champion experience and also the team chemistry will be better this year now that the whole team will get to know Johnson's style of play a bit better.

However the mavs still lack a strong slasher type player or a superstar overall play with the likes of Kobe, T-Mac etc. The offense is still limited to outside shooting game, not much of a threat going inside. Last year, Dirk tried changing his game to a more post type position, but its still not the threat the mavs need to pose a multi-faceted game type.

Defensively the mavs should be fine, especially with the addition of new players like Christie, despite what people have been saying about him

And don't forget that our head coach knows the ins and outs of the Spurs system better than any other head coach out there. That's valuable.

Howard and Marquis can be those slashers if they commit to it. Those same two players also have the ability to post up guards and smaller forwards if Avery decides to develop that.
