Both Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry, tabbed four years ago by former GM Jerry Krause to anchor the Bulls' next championship run, might enter the season with expiring contracts.It's not that the franchise is being cheap either just responsible. Chandler is a 22-year-old with a history of back problems that have scared the Bulls into offering an incentive-laden deal reportedly worth roughly $60 million. His representatives are pushing for to $70 million without the incentive clauses, citing the market value set by Samuel Dalembert's contract with Philadelphia.Because of the uncertainty regarding both players, only the Atlanta Hawks have expressed serious interest, and therefore it looks like Chicago can get away with paying only the $5.1 million qualifying offer to Curry and a $6.3 million offer to Chandler tendered before free agency began.Rumors of him being irked at Chicago for its decision not to extend him immediately would indicate he's short-sighted, as he can't really expect the organization to gamble on his future simply on good faith. That's not the way the world works. Picking up the option on his deal was the most they could realistically do. The Bulls would love for him to be healthy and would have likely locked him up to a maximum deal had nothing gone wrong this spring, but that's not the case.With Curry's future so unclear, signing Chandler is a must.
