<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Coach Mike Brown, who already has traveled to Los Angeles and St. Louis as part of the Cavs' efforts to sign free agents Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Larry Hughes, will need his passport the next time around.

He and General Manager Danny Ferry will take advantage of the lull in free agent movement to fly to the Dominican Republic to visit Cavs forward Anderson Varejao, who is playing for Brazil in the FIBA Americas Championship. They will leave today and return Friday. "We are looking forward to seeing Anderson play for his country," Ferry said. "It should be a great experience for him. He has worked very hard this summer with his national team and we hope they have a good result."

Also on the horizon is a trip to Belgrade to visit guard Sasha Pavlovic next month.

Why not just wait until training camp to make acquaintances?

"It is important to build a good relationship with the guys," Ferry said.

The Cavs remain stymied in their efforts to sign free agent point guard Damon Jones. Jones, who started for Miami last season, apparently would like to return to Miami.

But Miami is pursuing free agent forward Michael Finley, who has yet to decide on his next team.

If Miami uses its $5 million salary cap exception for next season on Finley, it likely won't make a suitable offer to Jones. The Cavs still have $3.7 million they could offer Jones next season.

The trip likely will not interfere with the Cavs' efforts to land Jones - or any of the other free agents who have visited in the past few weeks. Ferry still will be available via phone and/or BlackBerry.
