hey, Now with DA and Swift in our rotation, the Rockets are undoubtfully a better team than it was at the begining of the offseason. However, rocket fans still seem unsure of the PG spot. IMO, yes, we need a better PG, but Mike James does a good job, does he not? I dont see why fans don't think hes good enough to play the PG spot. He's quick, a good shooter, and an above average PG overall. His stats as a rocket are: 12.4 pts/game, 2.9 ast/game, 3.2 rebs/game, .96 turnovers/game (extreamly low). I would like to see what you guys think we should do to help the PG spot. Is mike james good enough? Trade? sign?

We need someone who will get them the ball. Not that he is a bad player I just think he would help us coming off the bench as a spark.
Mike James is a good asset, but only as a back up. I don't think he can be a good starter on this team. He's a scorer, and can only play at one speed, which is TURBO. If we were to utilize his talents, it would have to be as a spark plug off the bench.
I love MJames' game but with our line up he is better for us as a scorer off the bench. He needs the ball in his hands driving or creating his own shot and is effective at that and will be very valuable to us with that when Mcgrady rests. It would hurt his game to try to pass first and set up guys in the starting line up all game. Sura is still the best current pg i would trust to run the offense and can occasionally hit an open shot. Defending faster guards is Sura's biggest weaknes.
While our point guard position COULD be upgraded, it does not look bad as it stands...Sura and James are more than capable point guards, and it helps that McGrady and DA will also see some ballhandling duties...I think CD has done a great job of adding key players while not messing with last years chemistry, and I think we could easily compete with the team as the roster stands now...
Mike James showed during the few games he started that he could score, but not necessarily help teams win games. He didn't do a great job of getting Yao the ball and it often would seem that he'd have jacked up a shot or set up the offense even before Yao had got position. James is great for a change of pace and quick burst of scoring off the bench but he isn't fit to start.
I'm content with our current PG rotation. We will survive and possibly go far in the playoffs, but we won't win a title unless we can solidify our position with a floor general.
Sura, to me, is more important than James. Sura's toughness will take us further than anything James can do. Not taking anything away from James, but Sura is the starter.
I think Sura has the team's respect and brings toughness heart and intensity to the line up. He rebounded when it seemed our big men ran away from rebounds. When he slammed Josh Howard to the ground after Howard had taken some hard fouls against Yao in the playoffs, he became one of my new favorite players.
Bobby Sura's the man..his 35 points last season shows he's still got a lot of gas left in the tank Anyway like everybody else said, James is a great 6th man and thats what he will always be. What I love about Sura is his rebounding, toughness and how he often looks to pass first, and those are enough reasons for him to be our starting PG.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ownage:</div><div class="quote_post">you guys think we could trade or sign for a better PG than sura (not a pure PG) and Mike James?</div> It would have to be a trade, as we have already spent all of our free agent money and there aren't any PGs of higher than Sura's caliber who would take the minimum. Although there certainly are better options than Sura on the market, I don't think we should do anything about it. Sura did a great job last year distributing the ball and rebounding. and the team worked well with him on the floor. If it's ain't broke, don't fix it.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Sura does a good job rebounding and brings some heart into the clubhouse, and that's about it. His defense is horrible, his shot is embarrasing, and no he doesn't do that good of a job distributing the ball. I cant tell you how many times I caught myself yelling at the TV for Bob to get the ball down low into Yao, and he never listened. Infact, JVG had to bring Barry into the game just for that specific purpose.
