Do any of you think that we should trade either Carter or Jefferson for a big? Lets face it, we don't really need two all-star swingmen with the same capabilities. We probably would make it much further if we had an all-star swingman with a sharp shooter and a very good rebounding big man. It'll be very hard to succeed with two great swingmen short of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Yes, unlike them, we have Kidd, but lets face it, MJ and Pip are two of the greatest players of all time and Kidd doesn't make up for the deficit. If I had a choice, I rather trade Carter. His value is extremely high right now, and we probably can get someone very good like Pau Gasol + Shane Battier for him. Granted we might have to throw in a pick, but that's pretty damn good if you ask me. A line up of Kidd, Battier, Jefferson, Gasol, Krstic is an athletic, defensive minded line up that could make a lot of noise in the East. Sure, scoring consistency might be a problem, but front courts won't pummel us like they are now. Or what about Carter for Martin and Boykins? The Nuggets might be tempted because Carter is an all-star 2 gaurd and they have Nene who could still step in. I don't know about the rest of y'all but Kenyon doesn't look right in anything but a Nets uniform. He's gotten better along with Jefferson and with this better squad, we would have a better chance than we have in the past. Kenyon no longer has to face frontcourts alone and has another scorer in Krstic and a brusing frontcourt player in Jackson..or defensive stoppers in Cliff and a much better Collins. Part of me irks about taking such an inflated contracted for Martin, but if it gets us a championship I'm game. Boykins and McInnis would be a great 2nd unit backcourt, though I have problems of them shooting too much. But they'll push the ball each and every time. If we chose to trade Jefferson, I don't know what we could get. It's hard to gauge his value. Maybe Drew Gooden and future pick? Doesn't really sound all that tempting. Drew plays with a lot of fire but he isn't quite the smartest player. I rather have RJ. I can see the Cavs trading him because they signed Donyell and have Varejao though. Maybe Troy Murphy and Zarko? They're pretty versatile players, but RJ would still fit best. I don't think we'd get a fair trade for RJ so I think Carter would be the better if we were to trade. I just don't see this Nets team going far without a very good low post player...and unless Nenad gained 20 lbs of muscle and worked on his rebounding, I don't see us getting past the second round...we don't have a lot of time with Kidd aging and I really do not want to see him traded..
I think we should see how the Nets play this season and then think about wether, we should break up the three or not.
Not a bad idea, I would also try to trade Carter over Jefferson. Carter is injury prone and older than Jefferson, Carter is also an average defender unless he really focuses. The trade to the Griz isnt too bad but I dont know if they would bite, Pau isnt much less valued than Carter due to the lack of bigs in the league but also throwing in Battier may be too much to give up. The Denver trade might work but I dont know how well Martin back to NJ would work and the Nets have little use for Boykins now that they have an equally valuble McInnis. The Warriors trade probably wouldnt go through due to the fact that Mullin is in love with Dunleavy and we would have no experienced PF to fill in for Murphy, though I would love to get Jefferson. A possible trade could be Carter for Chandler/Curry plus filler/pick. Chicago needs a SG and NJ needs a good inside player. Another far fetched trade could be Carter for Magloire and others(any of Smith, Claxton, Anderson, Butler, Lynch). Yet another far fetched trade could be Carter for Boozer and Harpring or somethng along those lines.
I don't know. I really like the idea of Carter and Jefferson BOTH at the same time putting pressure on other teams. I can imagine them drawing a great deal of fouls and each other open after a double-team. The only glitch is Carter's defense, which has been the staple of the Nets these past years, but every time that I complain about VC's lack of D, he makes up for it on the offensive end of the floor. The Pau Gasol trade that you mentioned seems very nice, but then again, we have a developing big man with a lot of potential in Kristic. I like the idea of NbaBaller much more. Let's guage how the team will work in the begining of the season, and heck, if all comes to worse we can have a blockbuster trade before the deadline.
Like Nbaballer said, I think we should see what the outcome of this season is first to make any rash judgements or decisions, even if whatever we say doesn't affect what will happen. We should see how they fair with that dynamic 3. We could probably make judgements at around the middle of the season if anything.
Actually, the first person to go for me would be Jason Kidd, only because the window of opportunity to win with him is so short term. And the top of the east is so competive, with Shaq in Maimi, now. Its hard to beleive that Kidd, Carter or Jefferson, and a bigman would be enuff to get past Shaq....because now matter what big we get whether it be Brand, Gasol or Martin, if its not KG...they still wont come close to being the pressence & having the impact in a 7 game series to get us past Shaq, if he is healthy in my opinion. It might sound like Iam scared of Miami, that is far from the case...Iam simply saying that if the Nets dont keep all of the big three and add a quality big, its pretty much a gamble on getting past Shaq & the heat, even the Pistons and Pacers. So I think it would be smarter to keep the younger two of the core threee, so the Nets can be right there when Shaq's game completey goes south, which should be in about another 2 years. And that Pistons team with that frontline of Rasheed, McDyess will be up their in age. See my thinking is, the only reason the Nets organization is screaming to build a contender is because Kidd's window of opprtunity is so small...but as a Nets fan, honestly, after the Steph era & knowing the organization has no NBA rings to speak of, Iam still not in a rush, as long as quality basketball is being played at CAA. Like I said last offseason, we had a 3 year window to e win the chip, we didnt get it done. Now personally Iam willing to take that one or two steps back inorder to build a legitimate contender....like the Spurs have....where you know their window to win still has about 5 more good years at least...and they already have 2 chips from the core they have now. That is what I want, not a hope that some how we can squeeze out one championship in the next two seasons....before Kidd's age really starts to catch up with him. Just my opinion...
It just seems as if our big three is looking like the three Js with Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, and Jason Kidd....and they didn't get far even though they were fun to watch. I just want a win in Jersey before this team leaves my home state and goes to Brooklyn, where im not sure I can be a fan of.
Its tough because these 3 can really do damage together, but at the same time if you guys let one of them go since their a star you might get some more solid stuff in return.
I say let them play. Double teaming both VC and RJ is going to be almost impossible so I think it's going to be fun to watch. Plus, our front-court is better than last year, and we are way deeper. If our front-court is having problems by the deadline, then we can always dangle one of our guys, plus that extra first rounder we have to a non-playoff-contender for a solid pf.
I dont know honestly you guys would have been amazing if reef signed with the nets but now..i think the best thing to do would be to trade away carter? or even kidd?
I think you guys need to double check what I wrote. I'm not saying to trade them immediately, I'm just giving a possibility. RJ hasn't performed well on court with Vince, maybe cause they haven't practiced together or maybe it's cause RJ and Vince play the same way. Either way, I don't want to see the three broken up, but if we're not winning enough, this has to be an option. Please read more carefully and give opinions based on scenarios I presented.
ei.. i wud like to say dat d following trades are not quite realistic... dey r just giving up too much... if vince or jffrson wud b traded, they'll just go to a contender..a trade like loul deng+antonio davis+?? for either vc or rj + ?? wud be beneficial to both teams.. all in all, f 1 of dem wud be traded, i just wsh deyl go to a contender..for vc, since he's not getting younger and only an amazing playoff/finals performance can lead him to a near "legend" status & erase the negatives about him.. for rj, coz he's a hardworker, wud develop really well and doesnt deserv to be in a so-so team.. the bottom line.. DER's STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT but DONT FIX SUMTHING DAT ISNT BROKEN.. im quite exaggerating, am i?
^ no thats exactly right they only had like 10 games toghether and they didnt do that bad its just that who acn stop shaq in the playoffs and wades just incredible and rj wasnt healthy so there not broke so they dont need to fix it..........nextlevel i no wat u wrote im just resonding to the games post
