So when's this news going to be announced? It's been a week and nothing on hoopshype rumors section thus far. Seems a bit strange.
Yao Ming is busy right now, i think he is playing for China or something, so they are probably going to wait for when he comes back to houston. Has anyone got a source on this yet though, i am starting to doubt it.
sorry. but this is the first time I saw your (custodianrules2) sig. did you do that? it's freakin genious. hilarious.
Forget about any doubt that Yao is not going to sign with Rockets. Rest in peace to all speculation. <font size="5">Yao Ming gets max deal from Rockets</font> By Ric Bucher [Article] ESPN The Magazine The Houston Rockets will announce Thursday that they've signed two-time All-Star center Yao Ming to a five-year extension, thereby securing his services through the 2010-11 season, a source close to the negotiations confirmed early Wednesday morning. That this comes without drama or shock value -- not even for the Lakers -- is further proof that Yao simply isn't cutting it as your standard-issue NBA superstar. Under the next collective bargaining agreement, the value of the contract, which doesn't kick in until next season, will be 25 percent of whatever the salary cap is. Estimates have the deal starting at $12.5 million. What the Rockets have to wonder is if he'll ever start acting like someone pulling down that kind of coin.
A nice read. Yao is a really selfless, humbled and loyal person. You don't get that very often in NBA nowadays. Most players are so concerned about money even though they all get paid millions. Yao didn't even consider using the last year of his contract to his own advantage to get a better deal from houston. What a great guy. I'm happy that he's on our team and will stay here for a long time.
Rockets lock up Yao Ming to 2011 <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">BEIJING, Aug 31. (Xinhuanet by Sportswriter Wang Jingyu) -- The Houston Rockets have locked up three-time all-star center Yao Ming to 2011, according to Team Yao leader Eric Zhang. "Yao Ming has signed a five-year extension contract with the Rockets today," Zhang told Xinhua on Wednesday. The contract extension is worth around 76 million US dollars with Yao having an ability to opt out after the fourth year, according to Zhang. Yao, who is gearing up with the Chinese national team for the Asian Championship and World Championship qualifying tournament slated for Qatar in the next month, will also be able to continue playing for his country in the following summers. "Now that the contract is done, Yao can concentrate on the gamein the next season," Zhang said. Entering the NBA as the 2002 top draft pick, Yao averaged 16.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks for the Rockets in the last three seasons. A strong faith in the franchise that also included another superstar Tracy Mcgrady ironed Yao's determination to stay at Houston. "Yao has a dream of winning the NBA finals at least once, and he believed to stay at Houston he would have a better chance than moving to another team after the next season," Zhang said. "He also believed the Rockets can help him develop his full potential in the sport and make him a really good basketball player." "He is very happy in Houston," Zhang added. "He likes the city, the team and his teammates." The Rockets have been rebuilt around Yao and Mcgrady, with whomthe team had signed a contract extension that could keep him through the 2009-2010 season. They have also acquired power forward Stromile Swift and Derek Anderson and re-signed Ryan Bowen and Barry this summer.</div> http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2...ent_3427665.htm
