Dan Marino is the greatest player to have never won a Super Bowl. Period. In fact, Marino is the greatest player in any sport to have never won a Championship. The bad news is that football is a team sport and sometimes great players don't get Championship rings. The good news is that there's a Hall of Fame to recognize the accomplishments of great individual players and Marino will take his rightful place in a couple of days.

Marino is the first to spring to my mind, mainly because they played in the elite for so long without actually taking the top spot. Fran is of the same mold too, but not quite the QB that Marino was.

Ball handling positions usually get the most consideration for some reason. Unless you are a fan, people Butkus or say John Hannah don't come to mind as quickly, even though they were among the best at their position. Of course, if you are going to say that Butkus is one of the best that never won a Superbowl, then you also have to include several other pre-SB era players. [IMG]

    I gotta go with Marino.

The person I feel the worst about, though, is Jim Kelly. I really wish he would have won one of those four...

Poor guy. His son died today. [IMG]

I feel bad for him regarding his son. It was a matter of time, but that doesn't make it any easier.

I can't feel sorry for the SB loses....at least the last two anyway for some reason.

Although I would like to say Tarkenton, I can't with Marino in the same situation. Marino was definitely the best QB to ever play the game to not win a superbowl. In fact, I think he was the best player ever to not win a superbowl.

Sanders was the flashiest player to never win a superbowl (but then again, Sanders was simply the flashiest player ever to play the game).

Dan Marnio has to be the best player to never win a SB. He set tons of records and never had a ring to go with it

I don't know about "any" sport. Karl Malone, John Stockton and Patrick Ewing come to mind in the NBA.

I'm going to have to agree with many of the others in this thread and say Dan Marino, for obvious reasons.

Stockton deserved to win one. The other 2 did not. Charles Barkley should be included on this list of great NBA players never to win a title.

Wasn't Jim Kelly undefeated against the Dolphins when both he and Dan Marino started the game?

Ah look - the Dolphins fans are agreeing with eachother - that's a surprise.

But in all Honesty - I'd say Jim Kelly ranks above Dan Marino - at least he got there more then once - Dan Marino only got there one time - just on who came closer (one point loss to the Giants and then leading at halftime against the Cowboys the second time we played them + four appearances back to back to back) you gotta go with Kelly.

Dan Marino without a doubt he holds all the major records(Until Brett gets em!) and was just one of the best pocket passers of all time. Kelly gets a strong second place.
