I honestly think in-order for the Sixers to advance and become a better team they have to get rid of Chris Webber. He is expensive, and is not fitting in with AI and the rest of the team. What take do you guys have on C-Webb?
LoL, I had to laugh at this thread. They had have a season to get used to each other last year. And really w/o Webb I think we would of had a hard time getting in the playoffs. And he also played good in the playoffs against Detroit big men. Now that AI and Chris will have a 1/2, playoffs, and a full training camp, they should even show more promise. C-Webb is the perfect fit for this team I think because he brings knowledge of the game and great passing skills which will get these youngs guys more involved in the offense. Which will give them more confidence and make them into better players in the long run. Oh yeah, and him and AI get along with each other more than McNabb and TO. lol
How can you say that him and AI did not fit when the 76ers played better when they acquired Webber? Of course they didn't live up to expectations that everyone assumed they would go on and dominate to win the Atlantic Division but they definitely got better by adding Webber. When you think about it, adding Webb is a very smart move. AI is not very good at setting people up in the half court offense, and that?s where Chris comes in. He is a great passer off the elbow area of the floor and he adds another dimension to the 76ers because he can shoot the outside shot as well. Yes his contract is sizable, and this year he wasn't healthy, but expect bigger and better things from C Webb next year. His knee should be rehabbed, he has a new coach that will likely do a better job than Jim O'Brien because Mo is a player?s coach, and most important of all the 76ers will have a lot more time to mesh with each other. You can't make that big of a trade at the trade deadline and expect automatic results that same year in about 15-25 games. It is very unfair for the 76ers to get rid of him when they haven't even had him for half a season. With a training camp and a fresh new season with plenty of time to develop chemistry I think things will work between Webber and Philly.
lol!! reading this made me laugh. sure, webber is expensive, but who said he couldnt play? like B-22 said, webber has rehabbed his knee and will have fresh legs come next season. and who said that C-Webb cant mesh with AI? i mean, they played well together in the playoffs, and this off-season, they will be in camp together and will get even better. so yes, the sixers are better with webber and IMO, they are just a couple players away from being serious contenders.
lol getting along with one another has nothing to do with winning. Look at Kobe and Shaq..those two hated each other but they were pretty damn good together
No way is it better for the 76ers to get rid of Webber. Ya he struggled in the begining but he is a huge reason why the 76ers made the playoffs. Also before he wasnt 100 % and he was coming to a team hes never played with, and a whole different conference of course he wasnt going to be 'awesome', but he helped 76ers reach playoffs and now he knows more about how the team works and the players. Also 1 reason why at the begining things didnt work out with 76ers and Webber was Obrien didnt know what to do with Webber when he came. Now theres a better, new, coach and Webber will have a full season with the team theres no reason to get rid of him.
Let's face it, Webber is a risk. He has a declining skill-set and could go down for the count at any moment. However, if he is even two thirds of what he once was, it could be enough for the Sixers to make some noise. Win a title ? Probably not, but who knows ? With a full pre-season to work himself into the offensive scheme it could work out very well. Let's hope. Also, with his salary ... it is not likely he is going anywhere soon. So get used to him.
While I think the acquisition of Chris Webber was a bit short of fans expectations, to me, it?s a bit early for the 76ers to get rid of Webber. First off, Webber?s injury problems, and subpar performance last season will make it very hard for him to get traded. On top of that, let?s not forget he?s the second most paid player in the entire league. His contract isn?t up in three years so that will make it even harder to get rid of. We also have to remember that last year when he was just acquired by the 76ers, it was an adjustment period for him and the rest of the team. Webber never played with a player like Iverson before and having someone like Iverson who demands the ball so much is difficult to play with; especially for the first time in eleven years. So, it is understandable that he was struggling this much. If Webber and Iverson can emerge as the all-star caliber players they are, not only will the 76ers be in playoff contention, but don?t be surprised if you end up seeing them in a dogfight with Miami, Detroit and Indiana for the East. But that all depends on Webber and whether he can step up and do what Billy King brought him in to do ? provide a post presence, a sufficient second scorer to Iverson and make everyone better with his passing. Also, the Sixers need as much size as they can get. Not only because of Shaq now being in the East, but also because their overall lack of it. Steven Hunter was a very good signing, but other than him and Dalembert, what other big man is there? I?m not very familiar with their rookies, but I don?t think their impact will be that major. Webber gives them their best rebounder, best low post threat, and tons of veteran experience to help out with Iverson and the young guys like Williams, Korver, Iguodala, and Dalembert. All in all, the 76ers have so much to gain with Webber and so much to lose without him. He has been somewhat of a disappointment so far, but when you have a big man of his talent and his experience playing around Iverson who could have easily become the MVP of last season, not to mention Dalembert, Iguodala, and Korver continuing to be impressive, you have quite a team. Now that their being coached by Mo? Cheeks, they will obviously become better. So basically, 76ers now have contending potential with Webber, but without him they don?t. Plain and simple.

He's not the same dominant player that you would desperately need to sign big man FA?s just so you can throw at Shaq. Yeah, Dalembert, Hunter nor Webber can?t contain Shaq but how can? But overall his dominance isn't as big of a problem as it used to be. What makes him lethal is his passing skills and drawing attention to free up others. Injuries along with age are really starting to slow him down considerably. However, we do need more overall size; ideally a player like Donyell Marshall would be perfect to back up Webber. Having a big man rotation of Dalembert/Webber and Hunter/Marshall would be terrific and top that off with Shalvik Randolph and Gai. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">you have quite a team. Plain and simple.</div> I completely agree. Everyone has the Nets or Knicks winning the Atlantic Division. But people fail to realize how much of an impact and improvement Korver, Iguodala and Dalembert will have. The team is quietly improving from natural growth moreso than personnel moves. When you top that off with Iverson now knowing how to play the right way, Webber going through the rehabilitation process to help his lateral movement and the natural growth of this team guided by Mo Cheeks this team could be dangerous. With Webber playing the way he was last season (horrendous) the 76ers finished 6 games or so over .500 since Webber came along. So just imagine if he's playing at a high level and meshing with the team.
if webber is healthy, he will be an extremely valuable asset to the sixers...with his passing, scoring and rebounding, he can be the post player Iverson has yet to have in his career...IF he's healthy...has anyone heard anything on webber's condition?...because if hes healthy, he's more than capable of providing 18 ppg, 9 rpg, and 3 apg...and if he is in fact healthy, then yes, the Sixers will be battling for a top 4 spot in the East...
Webber is a great asset. He is a solid contributor with great skills and a terrific knowledge of the game. He is a great passer and excellent second scoring option. When he is full fit and healthy, we will win games its that simple. He has time to heal and learn the system and mesh with the guys, so it can only be a positive thing from here on in. Towards the end of last season, he was comin along nicely and contributing. Now with a full pre season and rehab on that knee, we look forward to him getting back to All-Star calibre form. If all this occurs as I have written it, then the Sixers will be top 4 in the East.
