<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DAYTONA BEACH -- The return of Phil Jackson as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is bound to make Tony Bobbitt's second season with them even more eventful than his abbreviated rookie year was. Bobbitt, the Mainland graduate who played in two games for the Lakers last season, got to find out while being on their injured list how much the team in general and Kobe Bryant in particular are the center of intense media scrutiny. Jackson's hiring after a one-year hiatus is expected to make a major difference in a team that lost 48 games a year ago in missing the playoffs for only the second time since 1976. "It's going to be more disciplined," Bobbitt said Saturday during a charity fund-raiser at Daytona Beach Golf Club sponsored by fellow Mainland alumnus and current NBA referee Eric Lewis. "For me, that's a great opportunity." Bobbitt played on the Lakers' summer league squad in Long Beach but has yet to meet in person with Jackson. He said his style of play, which consists mostly of slashing to the basket and spotting up near the 3-point arc, appears well-suited for Jackson's triangle offense. Then again, if Bryant continues to average close to 40 minutes a game, Bobbitt will likely see limited action again. "I'm not looking to come in and be spectacular," he said. "But if Kobe needs a break, I want to come in and step up to the challenge." Jackson isn't the only new face that Bobbitt will see when training camp opens Oct. 3. The Lakers acquired Kwame Brown from Washington and signed Aaron McKie to take the place of Chucky Atkins, who was sent to the Wizards. And first-round draft pick Andrew Bynum -- a 7-foot, 285-pound McDonald's High School All-American who doesn't turn 18 for another two months -- left a positive impression on Bobbitt during the summer league. "You can't expect a 17-year-old to come in and dominate," he said. "But in another five, six years, he's going to be a great player in this league."</div> Source I didn't even know he was still on the Laker roster.
I like Bobbit and I followed him in college, if he works hard enough he iwll be a good player for the Lakers.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Originally posted by Zoltar maybe he doesnt know yet</div> Anyways, Hopefully he can be a useful asset to the Lakers squad. Their in desperate need for a PG and he could probably be a good backup if he improves. McKie isnt what he used to be so I doubt he'll keep the starting job.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Zoltar:</div><div class="quote_post">maybe he doesnt know yet</div> LOL. With the new "silence" policy in place this could very well be true. He wasn't on their summer league roster, so I'm wondering how he plans on improving with the team if he wasn't even on the summer league roster?
Wow...like every other Laker fan, I had no clue this guy was still here. I wonder what he thought when he found out he was still on the roster, because I don't think he knew either.
I watched Bobbitt destroy the two Lukes(Jackson and Ridnour) in a Cincinnatti-Oregon game on tv a few years ago. It was the first time I saw him play, and I thought he was pretty darn good, if not consistient. The guy pulled off some pretty sick fadeaways and threes.
