We just signed the one available FA that could challange Vitaly for a starting job. After asking, begging, and pleading to be traded so that he might land a starting position, Potty resigns because there is a starting job right here. Now with Mikki on board, the job is no longer a slam dunk (pardon the pun). So, did Vitaly just poop his pants?
I still see Pot starting, someone who won't need any touches, keep the starting center in check and club people when they come in the lane. Then we bring our greyhound 2nd unit in en masse to run the oppostion into the ground - Mikki, Vlad and Nick along with Flip and Brunson.
Hm..looks like we filled our voids. AD was replaced by Rick, and now lazy a$$ jerome by Mikki. brunson is no AD but hey, if he can give us a solid backup thats what we want. Then with the six big men we have...we should have a nice rotation....vlade, nick, danny, rob, pot, mikki and plus Reggie (if we re-sign him, which i think we will). not bad...lots of bodies to throw around. we already got a bad ass backcourt with ray in the mix. im kinda liking it now...

That's an insult to Vitaly to say he's not much better than Mikki Moore. Talk about an underrated seven foot white guy who can't jump.
I think they went with more to give them a 7 footer on the roster with some experience. While he could challenge Vitaly for the starting spot, I doubt that he will succeed, though he may see a lot of minutes against the taller centers. Vitaly is strong enough to push them around on the block, but can't disrupt their shots once they get the ball.

I think you'll probably see Danny and Reggie guarding the Duncans and Garnetts on the post per se, and Mikki just looking to play help D when the shots do go up.

I always felt he was at his worse against those guys..especially Garnett.

Clinton "Mikki" Moore has never really been in anyone's set rotation for an entire year except for last season. No one is expecting him to come here and play starters minutes--he'll, like any other bench player, will be brought in as a change of pace. Vitaly's starting spot is secure but the question will be how many minutes do we expect him to play. I'm guessing that Vitaly will play 20+ minutes a game while Danny, Nick, Clinton, and Bobby do their whole center by committee thing. It really doesn't make a difference anyway considering all our bigs are really expected to do is screen, finish on pick and rolls, rebound, and foul. I don't see the ball going inside on the blocks too much with this group--Sweet Lew excluded. It barely went inside with Big Game James.
Good listen on supersonics.com with an interview with Mickey Moore. I posted it here because this topic was about Potapenko possibly being upset about Moore coming to Seattle. Interesting that Moore notes his main reason for coming here was through talking to Potapenko.
