Finley told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he has chosen to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, spurning a richer offer from the Miami Heat and the lure of an emotional return to the Phoenix Suns to reunite with close friend Steve Nash.

Hey Dallas, Michael Finley is heading to your conference rivals. The Dallas Mavericks tried for weeks to move Finley to an Eastern Conference team to prevent him from joining the Spurs or the Suns. When it couldn't swing a trade before the Aug. 15 deadline to exercise the NBA's new amnesty clause, Dallas reluctantly waived the two-time All-Star, making Finley an unrestricted free agent and the target of an intense two-week courtship that also involved the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Miami's Pat Riley, Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire and Minnesota's Kevin Garnett were among the big names to fly to Chicago last week to make face-to-face pitches to Finley. In the end, he went with the team that sent a one-man delegation -- Spurs coach Gregg Popovich -- to Finley's hometown.

The complete structure of the deal with San Antonio hasn't been finalized, including the length of the contract, but Finley will receive a starting salary of roughly $2.5 million this season.</div>

Wow. I didn't see that coming, especiallly, after in a previous article posted Popovich stated that the Suns seemed to have the best chance of landing him. [IMG]

    Holy snap.

Once you thought the Spurs were unstoppable, they get un-unstoppable.

    Damn.

Where's Ashton at? because Mark Cuban just got Punk'D

He will be paying Fin 51 million in total to kick his team's ass 4 times a year + playoffs? that truely has to hurt.

Spurs continue to be the team to beat. I don't know who will start between Finley and Bowen but either way they have depth at every position. Just hand them the title already. [IMG]

Bowen will still start i'm sure. He'll probably back Manu up. It's good to see that there are still players who value winnning over $$$

Wow, I didnt expect him to sign with San Antonio, I thought he was going to pick either the Suns or Heat. San Antonio are going to even more of a force next season, the NBA should be scared, lol.

Yes Bowen will continue to start and Finley will back up both him and Ginobili. Bowen is best served starting the game on the best offensive player with Finley coming off the bench. Man our 2nd team could make the playoffs ....

    C- Rasho/Oberto
    PF- Horry/Oberto
    SF- Finley
    SG- Barry
    PG- Van Exel/Udrih

I still cant believe it, Spurs fever is starting early here in S.A.

That's a good philosophy, but he didn't have to worry about finances since he's being paid by Cuban. It's a win-win for him because he's getting paid and joining a team that has a chance for a ring in Phoenix, San Antonio, and Miami.
