Damon Jones To Return? I'm not signed up to the Akron Beacon Journal, but if you goto the Hoops Hype rumors section, you'll see a part about Damon Jones. They're talking about how it's more likely for him to return to Miami now since Finley is no longer on the market and that they still have the full MLE(they won't use all of it on DJ) and can outbid most teams. It's believed that we're offering him a contract starting at 3.5 million, which isn't bad, but I wouldn't want more than a 2 year contract with a TO.
Link to the article I was surprised to read he's been waiting on the Heat's situation. I thought he wanted to sign with a team he would start with. With Jason Williams on board, I don't see Damon Jones beating him out for the starting job.
I was just reading the rumour section in hoopshype.com and it said that the heats will most likely use their MLE on payton or Damon Jones. Who would you guys prefer to have? IMO i think Payton would be a really good fit for the Heat I dont really like Damon Jones
Definately Damon. Payton's defense isn't near what it was before, so he won't bring that to the team. He's not near the outside shooter DJ is, and he's more likely to complain about having a lesser role on the team. Damon would have good impact on the team because of his ability to spread the floor, and also his willingness to accept his role, while Payton won't have as much impact because he doesn't bring anything the Heat really need.
Damon, Payton has experience but hes constantly screaming at refs, getting injured and bad effects of old age can be a problem. We need a backup PG(iwish we had dooling) so it would be better if we just keep DJ.
Damon would be the better fit as far as skills and chemistry...his 3-point shooting is more important to Miami than Payton's slashing would be...Miami is already a potentially high-combustible team as it is, and adding Payton would not help...
I agree with the rest of you, for the Heat to bring back Damon Jones. The only concern I would have is if Damon will be content to playing backup to Jason Williams, especially during the end of games. When Jason Williams misses a wide open look or commits a turnover, is Damon going to support him, or make a snide remark on the bench "I would have made that" or "I wouldn't have made that mistake, I should be in the game, not on the bench." Here's one more name to keep in mind...Eddie House.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Here's one more name to keep in mind...Eddie House.</div> I wouldnt mind if we get Eddie House, that would be awesome. I remember I used to love him when he played with the Heat.
Get Gary The Heat should get Gary Payton because Damon Jones is just too into himself. Wants to start, wants more money: I don't think he cares about WINNING as much as Payton does. Gary and Toine are good buddies from the Celtics, and Payton's role off the bench would be more needed. He could give it 110% without having to worry about tiring out. Miami should pay him the full MLE, but he might sign for less; He's dying for a second opportunity on a stacked squad, and this is it. How would you like to see The Glove give Michael Finley fits in games in June? The Miami crowd would get an EXTRA kick out of that!!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting iceman:</div><div class="quote_post">Payton because he needs the ring .</div> This is the Miami board, not SA. Back on topic, if I were the Heat I would prefer GP. Damon Jones and Jason Williams both shoot alot of 3's, and neither plays defense. Payton would help more because he would bring defense off the bench along with a scoring punch and I believe he would complement the Heat well off the bench. Damon also wants a starting job so that may effect his decision.
Payton because damon jones is thinking about himself alot more, jones wants money and to start, so if he doesnt start than he might be a distraction to the team. While Payton has lost some of his skills to old age but still can be effective with his defense.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Here's one more name to keep in mind...Eddie House.</div> Eddie House is definately an interesting one. He has great quickness and speed, and can be an explosive scorer. He also has a pretty good outside shooting touch, and could definately help the team. His actual PG skills are lacking, but no more than Doolings [they played together on the Clips, horrible, horrible days], and he's a lot less erratic.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting pg1413:</div><div class="quote_post">Payton because damon jones is thinking about himself alot more, jones wants money and to start, so if he doesnt start than he might be a distraction to the team. So once Payton starts showing effects of old age and gets his same old back injury, who will we have as backup? The Miami Heat are better off keeping Jones and keeping the old version of Payton away from the organization
You add Payton to the mix and the Heat are a nightmare waiting to happen. GP is also alot older now and can't D up at a high enough level anymore. Heat need another shooter and Damon Jones is the prefect fit. I would of thought this was a no brainer for Miami fans mainly after what Alfred did last year with his record breaking three-point shooting. To beat the Spurs the Heat need another shooter to open things up inside. Thats where Jones comes up. Payton is no use in that area and he still has nightmares about Tony Parker. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How would you like to see The Glove give Michael Finley fits in games in June?</div> Maybe in the 95-96 season.
