I just watched the last portion of the Jim Rome show and he is totally convinced that the Lakers are going to be corrupt for many many years to come. Your thoughts?

Jim Rome just has a pure hate for LA. He never gives the Lakers props. It's no secret why so many people hate him.

He may be right, time will tell.

Right now it doesn't look good, for every good move the Lakers make they make two bad moves. Maybe Phil can mold these guys into a contender, but it doesn't look good and Buss looks more like Sterling every day. If the Lakers are back in the lottery next year, and that is not out of the realm of possibilities if you look at the current talent level vs. the rest of the West, many will be calling for new management that is not just looking at the bottom line and will put a team on the floor that meets past championship standards.

Yes I would, what he was talking about is what us Laker fans would like to see happen such as Amare, Dirk, or KG coming to LA. The Laker fan who posted the question on the show was flamed by Rome and suggested the Lakers will never be winners again.

I really don't think the Lakers are doomed at all. They have a very good core of players, it's just a matter of a couple of them, those being Odom and Brown, finally play up to potential. If Brown gives them the toughness in the middle that they're hoping for and if Odom thrives at the SF position this year, the Lakers could be dangerous. If those two can thrive, couple them with the always dangerous Kobe Bryant, and the Lakers have the potential to be good. Because, they finally have a good coach, something they lost when Rudy T left, and now have a much better PG in Aarong Mckie, the Lakers could be good.

Jim Rome is a 'shock jock' and when he doesn't have a real story he relies on attacking the Lakers or other high profile teams. I'm sure he made some fair points, but I think the Lakers are one of the hardest teams to predict for this upcoming season. They have a lot of 'IFs' and depending on your opinion those 'IFs' will work out or completely fail.

An encouraging stat from last season was the Lakers winning percentage when they held teams under 100 points. Their record was 27-7 in those games. With PJax as the head coach, the new additions, and a healthier roster, the Lakers defense should improve right away.

Moo2k4, said it all. Its all about the players thriving in the system. Kobe always has been and always will be a great player but Odom and Kwame havent lived up to their potential yet, but they've been coming pretty darn close and with P-Jax as the coach they could reach their potential.

Shape brought up a great point, 27-7 is an 80 percent clip, easily good enough for one of the top 2 seeds in the west. I'm not saying thats where the Lakers will be this year, but if Pjax can convince them to play defense, I think they will be better than expected. Word is Kobe has been training so hard that the team has asked him to ease off a bit. Lamar Odom will show his true abilities at his natural position, and I'm confident in a Kwame Brown ressurection. I think if things go well the Lakers could be top 6 in the west, and even make noise in the playoffs. Like someone said, Rome is a shock jock and half the stuff that comes out of his mouth are just for ratings....and he's an idiot besides.

aw okay. The Lakers will be fine.

With phil back they will return to sellout form. I dont put the preassure on Brown i put it on Odem. Odem is the key to the lakers success. If he can just follow kobes lead (train with him, 1 on 1's) if u can match up with kobe u can roll with anyone in the league. That's how pip got good so quickly (playing against the best guard in the league). The lakers have the potential to be strongest team in the league by 07.

The reason i think that them training together is beneficial to the lakers is because
1 on 1 play improves a players defence. In a 1 on 1 u got to guard ur man every play if plan on winning.

But i do question Odems passion for basketball. If its not there, there is nothing that we can do to about improving his game. But if he can somehow ignite himself or if phil can spark him the lakers season will certainly be a posative one.

    GL Lakers!
