Got this from another forum: InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner reports that Scott Padgett will sign with the New Jersey Nets. The 6-9, 240 Padgett is the size of a power forward but he shoots outside like a guard, with a career 38.8% three-point field goal percentage."
Is he like a Van Horn kind of player. I thought the Nets needed a strong big men not a big men that plays like a guard.
No way Padgett signs with the Nets. The Nets doctors will find something wrong with him to make him fail his physical.
hahahaha padgett was a reliable offensive player.....if it was his day other then that hes garbage and on defense hes garbage even if it is his day
not sure how much truth is to this hoopshype reprted that the nuggets and clippers are interestsed prosports daily says that he agreed to terms with the suns but changed his min when they signed grant
Here is a link about it: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Looks like Scott Padgett wont become a Phoenix Sun after all. Padgett is not going to follow through on his verbal agreement to play for the Suns for $1.1 million and instead it looks like he could end up in New Jersey playing with Jason Kidd and Vince Carter.</div> link (scroll down) ----------------- hmm....to be honest I dont know, he was not what I was looking to add in a frontcourt guy. He is a quality shooter, but I wasnt looking for that in someone who may spend minutes at the 4 spot. I think the biggest problem, is that he isnt a versaltile combo forward, he is more of a combo forward for defensive reasons, he cant guard alot of three on the perimeter...but he cant guard the more pshyical 4's either....so we are going to spend alot of time trying to mask him defensively in my opinion. I would have rather went with a combination of Murray & Booth, then this...signing Padgett effects both potential signings.
If there is truth to these Rumors, then I can understand why the Nets would make such a move: They kill two birds with one stone. They sign a big man and a shooter with one signing. I actually would prefer a signing of Booth with Murray (as Henacy mentioned), but it would not be too horrible if the Nets signed Padget with Murray. According to my latest count, the Nets have 12 players signed. That means that they can attain 3 more players. It therefore could be possible to sign all three. We'll just have to wait a little while to see if these rumors are true, which I doubt.
I think the Nets should get an athletic four like Marcus Haislip just so we have one guy who can run with our big three.
I dont see it as killing to birds with one stone honestly....yes, Padgett has bigman size, but he definately isnt the type of bigman, we needed. A wing in a power forwards body isnt what we need, we need someone willing to stay in the paint area on both ends of the court. We solved our shooting concerns...but my have created more question marks with our frontline, because I think we still need another pshyical, decent bigman...and now we probably wont get that, since we signed Padgett.
All we need is an athletic power forward that can run, I don't care how crappy his shot is... Shouldn't be too hard to find one, but I don't like this signing, it just makes our frontline even less athletic...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting virve119:</div><div class="quote_post">All we need is an athletic power forward that can run, I don't care how crappy his shot is... And it is harder to find a athletic forward then you may beleive..the only one on the free agent market that the Nets can afford is Marcus Haslip. We could make a small trade like Zoran Planinic+filler for Melvin Ely. I think Ely works on this team because his ablity to block shots and run the floor. Or what is Keon Clark doing? he is worth the risk at this point on a 1-year deal.
i agree wit henacy on this.. maybe ely.. an athletic forward would really do us good.. just someone dat can rebound well and dunk on fastbreaks..
maybe, Planinic & Vaughn for Melvin Ely, I would hate to give away Vaughn, I think he fits in very solid as a insurance pg...but I would give him up to add another big to the rotation. Sign Murray to Vets minimum... Kidd/McInnis Carter/Wright Jefferson/Lammond Murray Collins/Ely/Padgett Krstic/Jackson Rest of the roster: sign Travis Best for a cheap 1 year deal as a insurance pg, Cliff Robinson and Linton JohnsonIII, puts our roster at 14.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Nets have found their replacement for Brian Scalabrine and filled the spot that Robert "Tractor" Traylor was expected to have. Veteran forward Scott Padgett has agreed to terms on a multiyear deal with New Jersey, pending a physical examination that he will take next week, Nets president Rod Thorn said Saturday. The 6-foot-9 Padgett, who has averaged 4.6 points in 355 games for the Jazz and Rockets, will get the $1.6 million the Nets had remaining on their midlevel exception. That was originally supposed to go to Traylor, but he failed his physical and the Nets voided their deal with him last week. With Padgett, the Nets would have 13 players under contract. They are expected to add one more, and it could be Lamond Murray. As expected, the veteran swingman, who played college ball with Jason Kidd at California, was waived by the Toronto Raptors on Friday. Once Murray clears waivers, the Nets could offer him a minimum contract, which is all they have left under salary-cap rules. Other shooters who are on the Nets' radar are Wesley Person, Jason Kapono, Casey Jacobsen and DerMarr Johnson. The Nets desperately want to improve their shooting. They were next-to-last in the league in field goal percentage last season, making 42.9 percent of their attempts. They believe landing Jeff McInnis, who they signed earlier this summer, Padgett (if he passes his physical) and another shooter should help in that department</div> http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=e...2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">pending a physical examination that he will take next week</div> Thats the bottom line. And I am not saying that as a joke. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Nets desperately want to improve their shooting. I think that it should be boosted by offensive rebounds and points in the paint. It seems as if Rod gave up this season attempting to build an inside team, and envisions a team that beats teams with shooting.
yeah.. very much lyk d suns witout an amare presence.. dats why we need an athletic big man... To Henacy: is that u Lawrence Frank?? hehehe. Im just quite awed by how u keep giving ideas that are quite almost of the same line the front office does. "quite" is a keyword since mr. henacy and the other contributors here sometimes give better suggestion than what the front office does. I hope they hire sum to be a representative to the fans so we cud voice out opinions and even give suggestions they myt be blind sided of, given they're very busy people.
