<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hoping to provide Hurricane Katrina evacuees with immediate help and long-term tools to begin rebuilding, the Rockets next week will turn Toyota Center into what they hope will be a clearinghouse for aid and information. The Rockets, Aeros, Comets, television station KPRC, United Way, Urban League and American Red Cross will hold a telethon and donation drive Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, the organizations will distribute goods collected and provide information and guidance on sources of job training and placement, housing assistance, school registration and medical and mental-health counseling. "We're trying to create a one-stop place for people to try to get their lives back together," Rockets vice president Tad Brown said. The event, Houston HopeFest, will involve Rockets players Tracy McGrady , Derek Anderson , Jon Barry , David Wesley , Mike James and Luther Head. "This is about trying to help, trying to do our part," said James, who also has made plans to personally deliver a truckload of goods to the Astrodome on Sunday. "We're not looking at this as just turmoil, devastation. Now we're trying to help find a solution. We're trying to fix it now. "It happened. The houses are under the water. The problem has already happened. The people are tired of you mourning with them. They're asking for help."</div> Full Story
