I went to a UK game a couple years ago and had great seats. There was this old lady that looked like she was 80 sitting next to me. She was dressed nicely and all. By halftime she was sreaming, pulling her hair, stomping the ground and cussing out loud. She cussed throughtout the rest of the game. [IMG]

Point taken but he probably feels that since he paid for his ticket, he has the right to express himself, how he wants, anytime he wants...and in my opinion he is right, as long as it is not over the top disrepect like screaming rapist or wifebeater today certain player ie what Kobe got in certain places or what Kidd got in Boston in the playoffs. Also as long as that line isnt crossed between player & fan space like Detriot last year...I dont see anything wrong with fans expressing their opinions......if somebody feels like screaming Lebron is garbege for a full 48 minutes...or something like that I think he has the right too...when you buy a ticket to a sports event you should expect to deal and hear fanatics all game...if you want to chill in a silent atmosphere at a Sporting event...my I suggest a Hornets or Hawks game....you can get in a nap & some light reading in perfect silence....

Yeah I went to a UM basketball game last season and it was funny to see my despised middle school basketball coach was their at the game also. It was hilarious watching him scream and cheer for the canes. Even after the game he comes up to me and my friends and asks us if we learned anything from the game lol.

Yeah, it sucks when fans wont shut up. I was at a Duke vs. St. Johns game in Madison Square, and we had awesome seats, 8th row. So these people are sitting in front of us and they were fine, but then they left, so other people took their seats. They wouldnt sit down or shut up, so we kindly asked them to at least sit down so that we could see, but they wouldnt because we were routing for Duke. So we get security, the guy starts flipping out, calls my mom white trash and has to leave the game. But while he's getting up he spits on my mom(and he calls US white trash!) (I wanted to kill him, if only my dad was there...) but the security guard didnt see it so he couldnt do anything about it. So they left, and to apoligize, the security guard told us where the players were leaving the stadium so we could get autographs. Surely enough, I got Daniel Ewing, Shavlik Randolph, Coach Collins, and a few more. I didnt get JJ Redicks though because he got a police escort out. So, bad things can lead to good things. Oh yeah, and Duke won. [IMG]

Typically I find that at NBA games, the lower bowl is dominated by upper class business men, lawyers, doctors, and those types, so there's not much cheering going on. Because of that, whenever you see some guy cheering and chanting on every posession, it can get on your nerves, just because how out of place it is. However, there's nothing better than going to a college game where every single person in the lower bowl is acting that way. When the entire crowd is into the game and you can participate with them, it can really be fun. I got a chance to sit behind the "Izzone" this year, and I've never had more fun at a basketball game in my life.

Just compare the typical NBA crowd to the typical crowd at an NCAA school like Duke -

I've always thought that soccer matches in Europe were very comparable to the marquee NCAA matchups in America. Like I said earlier, when the whole crowd is going wild, then it's easier and more fun for you to do the same. I also think that some European basketball arenas have better and louder crowds than those in the NBA. With the NBA offseason, I've watched a lot of various European leagues on NBA TV, and I've noticed that in most of the arenas they allow whistles, flags, airhorns, and all of those distractions that they wouldn't typically allow in an NBA arena; it's great.

I actually enjoy the screaming fans, it raises the energy level and makes the game more exciting. There's nothing like a good heckler to get the crowd going. Even though I enjoy the Laker games, the fans who attend the games are generally boring. Compared to other stadiums I've been to, it ruins the experience when the fans just sit there and participate in an occasional cheer or make noise when the video prompter asks them to be loud. I've had the best experiences when fans are into the game for the entire 4 quarters. The Kings have a great energy in their stadium, I hate the cowbells, but the fans really get into their team. The Warriors also have some great fans at the games, who are very passionate. Nothing beats a good college rivalry game though, and like Peja King mentioned, soccer games are insane. I went to one World Cup match when it was in Palo Alto, it was amazing!

I'm with shape here, I love the high energy levels when I go to a game, if not why buy tickets for it if you want to just sit there and watch it. You can do that in front of the TV.

My favorite arena memory comes from college ball. St. Joe's vs. Oklahoma State (Elite Eight) two years ago at the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. I would say 95% of the crowd was for St. Joe's, and I didn't sit down for the whole game. It felt weird when Jameer missed the game winner it suddenly got silent and the 5% of the Ok State fans started to stand up and cheer.

Being a Magic Johnson fan and watching a Lakers/Celtics game at the Garden, it couldn't have gotten any more annoying!!

There wasn't any kind of profanity, vulgur language, cussing, assaulting, and any possible offensive word that ever existed in English language that wasn't used on Magic, Dunleavy, Perkins, Divac and the rest of the team and their respective mothers by the hunderds of people that surrounded me.

Seriously, I almost threw several punches if I didn't think I'd be leaving the arena one-legged at best.

Didn't some crazy fan throw a flare at some soccer player once lol.

    Soccer fans are something else.
Last year at the Skydome (Blue Jays Stadium), I was put in charge of field and locker room management for a Liverpool/FC Porto game. You wouldn't believe how scared some of the security guards were by the British fans reactions and chants.

In England and Italy, you COULD get killed if you sit in the opposing team's fans side, seriously, you may lose it too.

Yeah, that was last year in the Champions League semi-finals, when an Inter fan threw it at AC Milan's goalie, Dida. Safety is a much smaller priority over there, for some reason.

That happends all the time, along with throwing of smoke grenades (bengals), and all types of food. Players and fans can get hurt, and its usualy the club that has to pay for it.
