In the wake of failed physicals by Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Robert "Tractor" Traylor, the Nets, according to a league source, have reached an agreement with Rockets free agent Scott Padgett.

Padgett, a career backup, must, of course, pass his physical this week. Padgett has agreed to a one-year deal at $1.6 million, plus a second-year team option the Nets likely will exercise.

The Post has also learned the Nets rejected Traylor due to a heart problem along the lines of Laker draft pick Ronny Turiaf. The Lakers rookie has an enlarged aorta and needed an operation last month. The Nets didn't want to take a risk on a player who might need surgery down the road. </div>

Padgett is a nice addition, a big man who has a keen eye from beyond the arc. He can also play SF if needed too. Nice pickup for the Nets.

not really. we didn't need a shooter in a big man's body. we needed a tough banger inside. i would much rather someone like calvin booth.

And the Nets finally sign him.. Hes an OK addition but nothing that will take the Nets over the top or anything, but still a nice player to have. As kobimel stated that Nets would be alot better off with a real big man thats a tough banger inside.

Well I think a big man who can shoot well is a plus for any team, think about it, its much harder to guard/shut down some one who's 6'9 and can sink threes than it is some one who's 6'4 or so.

I still think its a nice pickup for you guys, apart from VC, you dont really have any specialist 3 point shooters, atleast now you have some one you can bring on in dire straights to try pull you out of any holes you might get into.

I mean, f Padgett's role will be as a shooter, then I'll be ok with it. But if we signed him as to fill the big man role, I'm not liking it as much. So if we sign Haislip or another big now, and use Padgett as a shooting spark off the bench, then this is a pretty good signing.
