<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Yao, who had signed a five-year contract worth 76 million US dollars with Huston Rockets, went to People's University in Beijing to have the blood sample test on Sunday. Thus, Yao has become a volunteer of China's Marrow Center.

Luo Yang, one of Yao Ming's super fans, died of leukaemia last year at the age of 16. Dying Luo was eager to say a few words to Yao who was then competing in NBA. Yao made a phone call to Luo after a match and encouraged him to fight against the disease. Furthermore, Yao sent Luo 20,000 dollars.

Yao, who is in China preparing for the Asian Basketball Championship, said that if his blood sample matched, he would definitely donate his stem cell.

not only the heart of what a champion is, but a prime example for children to follow...a man who can give back to the community in ways other than money such as a REAL part of him...this is great...I'm glad to have him in Houston and I'm proud to be from his hometown [IMG]

That's great to hear, but I don't get it, if Luo Yang is already dead, what's the point in Yao donating his Stem Cell?

I guess that's what the critics would call being "soft", but to me Yao is very kind hearted individual. Something we rarely see in professional sports today.

This shows another side of Yao that no one knows about. Besides being a great player, he is also a philanthropist and someone who is always finding ways to contribute to his community and home country. His influence on the worldwide stage will be decisive in motivating others to do the same. Classy thing for Yao to do.

This is defenitely good to see. Yao gives back to his people everytime he steps on the court, and now hes donating his stem cell, good man.

Yao seems like a great guy. You don't see many great players that give back to the community as much as Yao does.
