<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached a contract agreement with free-agent point guard Damon Jones. It is a four-year deal worth $16 million, according to an NBA source. The deal has incentives that could push the value to near $20 million. The Cavaliers had offered him a contract last month and waited weeks for a response. Jones had preferred to return to the Miami Heat and that looked like it would happen after the Heat failed to sign Michael Finley. He will help bolster the team's woeful jump shooting as well as provide another ball handler</div> Akron Beacon Journal Best move they made this off-season. Makes them even more of a threat.
I don't think he's the best move, the best move was bringing back Ilgauskas. Damon Jones, however, is the perfect compliment player for LeBron James. He shoots a high percentage off of the catch and shoot, which will make the person defending him think twice about doubling over to help out on LeBron. Danny Ferry is doing a trememdous job as GM, he learned from arguably the best in the business, RC Buford. This solidifies the starting 5 for the Cavs now, and makes them a strong contender for the playoffs. They will have a position battle at PF between Marshall and Gooden. PG - Jones SG - Hughes SF - James PF - Gooden or Marshall? C - Ilgauskas
Its sad to see he aint on my heat no more ! But for the Cavs this is really a good move they needed a great shooter and Damon is just that he can compliment Lebron very well. This moves practilly guarantees the Cavs will make the playoffs this year IMO.
Huge move by Cleveland IMO. The thing that makes this work is that while Damon Jones is not a real PG by any means, Lebron has the passing skills of a true PG, and Larry Hughes is a good passer when he's not hogging. They have now improved their 3PT shooting 10 times as much as last season. PG - Damon Jones SG - Larry Hughes SF - Lebron James PF - Donyell Marshall C - Zydrunas Ilguaskas 6th Man [PF/SF] - Drew Gooden 7th man [PG] - Eric Snow 8th man [SG/SF] Luke Jackson 9th man [SF/SG] Ira Newble 10th man [SG/SF] Aleksandar Pavlovic Varejao is injured till probably about December, and the Cavs are going after another big man. If and when they do get one, he will likely replace Pavlovic in the main 10 man rotation, and when Varejao returns, he'll be the 7-9th man as a PF/C.

He's a solid bench player and he was successful as a bench player for the Raps. The Cavs look solid and I think they are in for contention for that Eastern Conference Championships. I love this line-up.
Cavs have a nice roster with their big signings. Jones was great for Miami and hit a lot of 3's. The Cavs three point shooting has definitly improved with Donyell Marshall and now, Damon Jones.
this has been a GREAT offseason for Cleveland... adding Jones, Hughes and Marshall to LeBron, Gooden, Big Z, Luke Jackson... the cavs are gonna beast this year... I see them as a top 4 club, along with Miami, Indiana, and Detroit...

i guess lebron apolagized for that dunk he did on damon.you know tha one where it looked like he was smacking damon right on the neck.here take a look
Great move by the Cavs. Jones will definitely help punish they defense if they collapse on Bron and Hughes' penetration or Ilgauskas in the post post. Also about the Marshal/Gooden starting postition, I would say Marshal should start without hesitation. Marshal already is a better defender/ shotblocker than Gooden probably about as good of a rebounder and also has a great offensive game.
wow A amazing move by the Caviliers, solving their two main problems by adding a good point guard (big improvement over Snow) and giving them much improved 3-point shooting. I personally believe that Marshall will start and Gooden will come off the bench for the Cavs. Either way the Cavs may now have the best starting five in the east. I'd take Jones, Hughes, James, Marshall and Z over Jason WIlliams, Wade, Posey and Shaq or Billups, Rip, Prince, and the Wallaces or over Tinsley, Stephen Jackson, Artest, JO and Foster.
As far as I can remember, I thought Danny Ferry looked like a lumbering big guy.. But when I saw his press-conference with the Cavs (his official introduction), I was blown away by how smart and articulate he seemed.. Anyhow, he's done a GREAT job this off-season.. Even with the money they had and LBJ's appeal, there was no guarantee that he would've been able to sign the players he did.. BIG !
I was right I said in another topic about D-Jones that if he was smart he would sign with the Cavs. Great decision by both parties on this one, really caps off the Cavs as a very solid team this season, they're playoff bound for sure.
Definitely a great move for the Cavs. It seems as if they are making the best moves of the off-season. They have done a lot more than I expected, and now they have addressed their last need a point guard. Although at times Jones is a little inconsistent, he provides a three-point threat in which the Cavs desperately needed. They also needed another point guard because McInnis signed with the Nets. I am impressed with Danny Ferry's GM skills. When the off-season began nobody really expected the Cavs to sign Larry Hughes, or Donyell Marshall both of them are top free agents and the Cavs signed both of them. Look out for them this season they have improved a lot!
It's going to be a three point frenzy!! I can't wait for the season to start. Playoff contenders for sure!
Unless theres an injury riddled season for anyone on the Cavaliers roster they'll be amazing this year an dI could even consider them over Indiana in the playoffs with Bron at 3, Hughes at 2 and Alfred at PG with Marshall and Gooden rotating at the 4 and Big Z at the 5 they're good on paper hopefully this translates well. Good pickup for the Cavaliers.
^^ I consider them over Indiana, apart from J.O (and maybe Artest), the rest of the team is rather inconsistant. Did the Cavs keep Eric Snow? Because hes a nice backup PG for the Cavs to have still, if he is still there.
