    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crywalker:</div><div class="quote_post">Touche.

At least Peter Vescey (whom I have no respect for, don't get me wrong) never named himself as a clubhouse source.

Although that's probably just because Peter Vecsey isn't allowed in clubhouses, no one in the NBA likes him.</div>

HUGE difference between Peter Vecsey and let's say, Ric Bucher. Peter Vecsey is hated by NBA execs/GM's/coaches etc. because NOTHING you say to him is off the record. He has a respected TRACK RECORD of not reporting all out falsehoods or total crap stories. If you were shopping a player HE'LL REPORT IT. That usually pisses off people that didn't want that info to leak. Ric Bucher on the other hand reports weak rumors and stories OTHER SOURCES have already reported on and is considered a kind of joke even by Slam, Dime and HoopsHype, InsideHoops and HoopScoop. One.

I call this the BSPN syndrome. Ric Bucher used to be a very respectable writer when he was with the San Jose Mecury. He was very thorough and credible with the stories he broke first, usually centering around the Warriors. Ever since he's joined the BSPN team, his career has taken a turn for the worse. He's had a few incidents where he reported a trade as a "done deal," and when the deal didn't go through he denied ever reporting it. If you read through his BSPN chat transcripts, he's become very condescending and more of a tabloid sportswriter. Disappointing!

Peter Vecsey is a different animal altogether. He will look for the most controversial angle in his articles and reports. You're also right, he does not think twice about talking about conversation off the record. He also likes to throw out 100 different scenarios hoping one or two stick and then remind you constantly he broke those first. He is the master of the dartboard approach.

Now the difference between those two is that Peter Vecsey has been reporting garbage on a national stage for a far longer and more documented time than Ric Bucher.

Ric is kind of like a baby Peter Vecsey, in that, if you mentioned Ric Bucher to any casual fan you might not get any recognition, whereas Vecsey has been deceiving executives and casual fans alike for years now. Brought up in conversation even the casual fan (from ten years ago, maybe) it is widely known that he is a snake of the lowest order, and has sold many a newspaper or magazine being one.

Ric Bucher has nowhere near the notoriety that Vecsey has, merely because he hasn't been at it as long. And the other difference is that he doesn't make the same kind of splash with his nonsense, because people already don't take him seriously. Vecsey honed a career as a serviceable newspaper man for the Times back in the day, and as a result, had a certain measure of credibility. Bucher writing for the Mercury didn't have anywhere near the same notoriety, and as a result, he isn't quite as reviled.

    They're just two different animals.

And beside that, yes, Peter Vecsey is known for reporting all out falsehoods, just like any other sports writer with a career as long as his has been.

It looks like the Pierce to Denver rumor is holding very little water right now....

Wasn't George Karl the coach of the Olympic team that Pierce was on? I recall that being a bad relationship and Pierce was made a scapegoat for the poor outcome of the team. I'm not sure that's the best fit for Paul.
