This is not new news, but it is refreshing that Jay Williams is still in the picture. Source We sure do like people named Williams.
thats the news i waiting for! I hope that Williams will understand that in Toronto he can come-back like he wants, in Miami it's going to be very hard and even with championship he will stay 7-8 player in miami. Also in Toronto he can ride on his bike in quitely... oops i think that he doesn't going to ride any more
maybe the can morph the crossover/heart of boogie williams with the skill of jay williams into one player... but on a serious note, if jay completely recovered from his accident, it would be amazing to see him return to all the potential he has...
Also remember that Chris Duhon and Jay Williams share a common agent - Bill Duffy - who owes one for the Raptors.
man i would love to have Jay Williams with the raptors this guy is amazing and i bet you he can probably do better than skip and land the starting PG in a few years
I think it would be awesome if we managed to get Jason Williams, he could possibly steal the back-up spot from Calderon, and even start some games if Rafer doesn't compromise.
Does anyone have any idea on how the injury has affected him? I would definitely love to add him to our roster, but I have concerns about how his speed, explosiveness, and lateral quickness have changed after the injury. If he's fully recovered, then I think he could challenge Alston for the starting spot.
dont forget he was the 2nd pick in the draft a couple of yrs ago. The article says that hes currently at 85% back, if he can get back to 90-95% he can be the startin PG for the Raptors and plat along side Bosh. Imagine if he could get back to 100%, him and Bosh could be awesome.
Having jay williams on our team would be great, whether he comes back 100% or not. More competition for starting point gaurd can only be a good thing for the raptors. I don't know what our chances of getting him are though. He's already had workouts with several other teams including miami. I would say if we get him it will be on his terms with a short-deal, maybe with a player option for an extension. Going to the raptors gives him the greatest chance to prove himself and increase his value in the future, going to miami and having to compete for time with higher quality players isn't going to necessarily get him that chance. I dunno if that will be enough to sign him though... there are any number of teams that would love to accomodiate jay williams in similar losing situations like the raptors ..
Toronto is the perfect team for Jay Williams to make his comeback on. He will come into a situation with a team built to run, which fits into Jay Williams strengths. He also won't be put into any pressure situations like he would with the Heat or if he joined another title contending team. Rafer Alston is not part of the future for the Raptors, so Jay Williams would have an opportunity to be the starting PG in a season or two. As far as his injury concerns, he went head to head with Dee Brown and Raymond Felton in the Chicago Predraft workouts. Scouts said he looked good in those one on one workouts, and recently scouts have said Jay is more consistant with his jumpshot. The main question mark will be his conditioning and what happens to him when he drives to the basket and gets knocked to the ground. I doubt he's had many full contact practices at this point.
It is obvious that Jay Williams WILL play in the NBA this year. He may not be at 100% but a Jay Williams at 85% is still better than most point guards in the league right now. The 3 teams that seem to be in the running for Williams thus far are Toronto, Miami and Houston. Williams agent claims money is not the issue, his client wants to be in the right situation. Toronto is such a situation. As Shapecity said. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Toronto is the perfect team for Jay Williams to make his comeback on. Houston has 16 guy under contract, 8 of them are guardsSource which in my opinion has Toronto with the best chance of getting Williams. Sweet!
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">However, former Duke University star Jay Williams is still in the picture. The Raps have offered Williams a non-guaranteed contract for about $640,000, which is close to their salary cap limit. Williams has been travelling to various NBA cities the past week, working out for teams such as the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and the Raptors. Despite the fact that he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2003, which resulted in a fractured pelvis and torn knee ligaments, Babcock was impressed with the 2002 U.S. college player of the year. Williams averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 assists for the Chicago Bulls as a rookie. </div> Source Seems like both sides are running out of options, and it's the only offer with a dollar amount next to it I've seen for Jay Will.
i say give him a chance to prove himself and give him a guaranteed contract i can't think of anyone else considering signing with the Raptors and he is willing to sign with us ever since babcock has been contacting him to see how he was doing back in the 04/05 season
If Babcock manages to get Jay Williams for $640,000, I'd call this off-season a satisfactory success. If he could get rid of either Rose or Aaron Williams, I'd call it spectacular.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Carcharias:</div><div class="quote_post">Chicago takes a pass on Jay Williams SOURCE</div> This isn't a surprise that they passed on Jay. This is good news for the Raps and if we get him for $640,000, that would be even better.

^ Definitely not. He's still not 100%, Toronto would bring him along at a good pace, but they wouldn't put him into the fire right away. Plus, Alston would be a HUGE distraction if that happened.
hm he would not start now because he is not 100% but i see him starting over alston maybe by next season that is IF he manages to become 100% btw does anyone know how many years we offered to JW?
