<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Houston:</div><div class="quote_post">Unless possibly Rockets management see Head as more of a 2-guard than a point guard, which then would make some sense out of their interest in Williams...</div> Damn...That would make so much sense. Good conclusion. Lets hope its not true though. I would much rather prever a taller point guard, then an undersized SG.
The best situation for him is in Toronto, he will probably be the number 2 guy behind Skip and if Skip will be traded then he will probably assume the starting role.
I agree, Toronto is the best situation for him, but he will be 3rd on the depth chart behind Alston and Calderon. However, he has a better chance at playing heavy minutes in Toronto, especially if the Raptors find someone to take Alston off their hands. Luther Head should be groomed as a combo guard for the Rockets. He will need to bulk up to 200 or 210 to play SG in the NBA. His frame should allow him to add the extra 15 to 25lbs without any problems. I can picture him being Antonio Daniels with a better jumpshot, because of his ability to play lockdown defense and get to the rim. He has the tools and from all I've read, the work ethic, to be a stud in the league.
That's right I totally forgot about Calderon. NO need for JWill in Houston because Head is going to be a good player.
I have high hopes for Head, so I don't think we should take Jay. I really like Jay though. If we pulled of some huge trade that gave us a legit starting SF for a bunch of our guards. (wesley, ward mooch???? maybe even james). So that T-Mac plays SG and DA backs him up, then there might be room for J-Will. I doubt that would happen though. But I still like the idea of us bringing in Al Harrington. Its a move I've dreamed of since the offseason started. I'm just weary that something like that might not be good for our chemistry. Wesley and james has been good for us and our established in the rotation.
im assuming that weve agreed jwill is out of the ? now so doesnt the move of rockets asking him to work out for them give you an indictation that they are looking to lose two players and not just one. Or maybe its motivation purposes so players like moochie and baker play their heart outs so they dont lose their jobs. luther head will be a great acquistion in my opinion. I think if wesley starts anderson will back up tracy mcgrady and luther head or barry will back up wesley. That should give him more time. I dont get why were putting him behind alot of players for the depth chart. if he plays the 1 then yes you will be right he wont get to many minutes but at the 2 spot its virtually between him and barry and barry will most likely get the advantage but you never know who will get injured EX. bob sura played 61 games only im not saying hes gonna be great in his first year but he does deserve minutes. i would much rather have him on our "fast break squad" becuase hes faster and more athletic than anderson and wesley but either of these players would be great which gives me great confidence in this rockets team pg - james sg- head or anderson sf- tmac pf swift c- yao ^^fast break
I don't know why everyone is so intrigued about the prospect of a "fast-break lineup" when it's very likely that we'll never see it materialize. Van Gundy loves the half-court set and although he did loosen the reins a little bit last year, it's unlikely we'll get any more up-tempo than that. The strategy and style last year worked well so I don't think there's any need to speed it up any more.

He doesn't exactly have the speed and conditioning to run the floor at high speeds over and over again. Yao's most effective in Van Gundy's half court sets. If anything, the fast break squad would be Swift at center.
tru but you dont really need all 5 players running down the court for fast break either. I do realize that we wont be on the fast break as much as other teams.
I think Head will end up being a great player as well but I just dont see him as a point guard...he can score, can shoot, and can slash well, so I think those skills would be best suited at the 2-spot...I'm getting agitated with the Rockets' recent infatuation of using combo guards as point guards, or using combo guards to handle most of the ballhandling duties...we need a solid, legit PG who's mindset is to get others involved, play D, and run the offense...from that perspective, then yes, I think J-Will is a potential fit...
IMO since we have this guard glut right now we should get rid of a few players and see what jay has got... I think all we need is a pg who can get alot of assists and play solid D to keep Yao outta foul trouble, I could care less if our pg can score, tho it would be nice to have a nice outside shooter discouraging any doubleteams, the pg just needs to be able to get the ball to yao/tmac/swift. Im not to familiar with jwill how was his D and can he be a pure pg and not another mike james?
Jay Williams not goin to toronto <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The invites also mean an end to Toronto's dalliance with Jay Williams, the former No. 2 draft pick trying to come back after missing two seasons following a motorcycle accident. "Jay has decided to go somewhere else," the general manager said. "We just cannot get in a situation where we can guarantee him anything."</div> http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=970081562040 Maybe an indicator that he will land up in houston.....
I read the article this morning in the paper but I don't think it's really anything important. The Raptors have had a contract offer on the table for more than a week now and there has been no news of both sides reaching anything. Babcock said that Williams didn't sign because he wasn't guaranteed anything. I doubt the Rockets will as well, since Sura, James and even Head might be ahead of him in the rotation. If Williams really want a guaranteed gig, then there aren't many teams who he would sign with.
but houston is lookin for another pg since sura's knee may be causing issues. But with that said Houston might be looking for a immediate starter at the pg spot which Jay is not. I have a feeling we will know really soon. I think Houston may sign Jay and get rid of ward , moochie and possibly james or sura to get a backup at the 3 unless they intend to have Anderson do that and a better fit at pg. My thought is that we need a pure pg. I know James can score but the thing is I didnt like that he didnt distribute the ball very well and he tried to create his own plays maybe thats due to the fact that he wasnt acquired until midseason and isnt used to JVG's system. I noticed, i think it was a playoff game that James called for the ball to bring it up court but Mcgrady waived at him to get his ass up court. I think we need a pg who is pass first and can play some good D at least stop players from driving to the basket and keep Yao from pickin up fouls. <font color="red">Please use the "edit" feature in the future. I see it pointless to get him since he cant start. Thats our only real problem, we dont know who is reliable to start, and j-will isnt yet. He cant even beat out Head. The bench is already deep enough, and when sura comes back, he would get kicked out of teh rotation.

I hope he gets signed by someone,i dont think the rockets really need him though. Its jus sad what happened to him,hes such a good player

We have enough at the 1, cause you forgot that we have luther head, who schooled j-will. There was also the addition of DA, like you said. Mike james might not be too reliable of a starter to the rockets since he tends to ball hog. A boost off the bench might be better. I see what you mean, i meant we dont need another gaurd at all.
