Interesting how they have Larry Brown bringing hope to the Knicks, but Phil Jackson isn't enough for the Lakers. A lot of room for improvement for the Lakers to climb up the power ranking ladder.
Playoffs? Playoffs? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Lamont:</div><div class="quote_post">http://www.nba.com/features/power_rankings_sept05.html Nba.com has the Lakers still not having a lock on the playoffs and behind the Clippers.</div> Based on aquired player's history this is not a playoff team. However since Mitch has a crystal ball into the future, noone else can see it since he keeps it with his head-up his arse, we won't know for sure until our wizard Phil gets through with his magic. Pimp our ride, Phil!
don't fall for the speculation. Everyone wants to bash the Lakers because of the success they had in the last 5 years and they are just eating up the fact that they didn't make the playoffs without shaq and they can easily point the finger at Kobe. The last laugh will be on the Lakers and I bet they get the most improved team this year.
What makes you think they will be better than last year if they havent made no major changes. And if you think Kwame Brown will be a factor, talk to some Wizards fans and they'll tell u. Coaches dont win games, players do!
I like the lakers ranked that low. Just makes them look better when they come out strong in the WEST>
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SanQuinn:</div><div class="quote_post">Coaches dont win games, players do!</div> Look at the Denver Nuggets and George Karl

You can't compare Phil Jackson to Larry Brown in turning teams around just as you can't compare Larry Brown to Phil Jackson in delivering titles. Until proven otherwise Phil Jackson isn't enough to guarantee the Lakers a playoff spot.

Coaches don't win games and players do?? Players need coaches and coaches need players to win. Phil Jackson is one of the best coaches ever. If you replace a bad coach with a good coach, then you are going to see a MAJOR difference. Why do you think everyone is excited for the Knicks and Larry Brown? Why not the same with Phil and the Lakers. I think Kobe made a attitude change for the better. Your right that nothing obvious has happened to the Lakers, but some lineup changes are going to make some differences.

Detroit Pistons - 50 to 54 (+4) wins Brown's first season Philly 76ers - 22 to 31 (+9) wins Brown's first season Indiana Pacers - 41 to 47 (+6) wins Brown's first season Larry Brown will turn the Knicks around, but if you look at his coaching history it takes more than one season and a lot of roster moves for it to get done. I'd argue the 1993-94 Bulls team looked very bad on paper. It was the year after Jordan retired the first time. The team's roster had the following players and they still managed a 55 win season. <font size="1">Scottie Pippen Toni Kukoc Horace Grant BJ Armstrong Steve Kerr Pete Myers Scott Williams Luc Longley Bill Wennington Bill Cartwright Stacy King Jojo English Corie Blount Dave Johnson Will Perdue John Paxson</font> I think PJax deserves a lot of credit getting this team to win only 2 fewer games than the previous year, after losing Mr. Everything, Michael Jordan. Don't you? I'm not saying the Lakers are a lock for the playoffs, but Phil Jackson will get this team playing better than they were last season. His biggest impact will be coaching this team to be better defensively. Last year the Lakers were 27-7 when they held opponents under 100 points. Players might win the games, but coaches prepare them and put them in situations to win those games.

When the Lakers have a streak of more than 3 years in a row out of the playoffs, then people can start talking. It remains to be seen. Clean slate this year partner
