<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Notes. Iverson will head to Tokyo and Shanghai, China, beginning Sept. 21 for a six-day Reebok promotional tour... . Just as he did last season, Iverson said he would again play point guard for new coach Mo Cheeks. "He wants me to lead the league in assists," Iverson said... . Iverson says he likes the makeup of this year's 76ers team. "I don't think we need anybody else," he said. "Shaq could help, Kobe would help, Tracy [McGrady] would help, but with the guys we've got, I feel we have the best chance in the world."</div> Source
Iverson, when he puts his mind to it, is one of, if not the best pgs in the NBA. I remeber watching him play pg in the allstar game a couple years back, and I was honestly amazed at his passing, at how he could really drive and dish. I'd like to see AI do what Tiny did, lead in both scoring and assists in the same season. That would command another MVP award for AI.
I like the challenge Mo Cheek put out there for Allen Iverson. All the great players are able to evolve their games, and the next progression for Iverson is to become an initiator for teammates. I remember the exact same All-Star game Char, AI was feeding everyone in that game, but I think it's easier for him to give up the ball when he feels his teammate is capable of finishing the play. Just looking at the month by month stats from last season, Iverson had his highest assists per month (9.1) in the final month of the season. Iverson gained confidence in his teammates more, and also the addition of Chris Webber gave the 76ers are viable second option on the floor. Also in the Detroit series, he average 10 assists per game, plus Iverson went from 42.3% shooting in March to 47.3% in April. I don't think Iverson will lead the league in assists, because I don't think his teammates are consistent enough yet at scoring. However, I think Iverson can work his way up to being top 3 in the league next season. Last year he was 5th in APG. My prediction: 1. Jason Kidd 2. Steve Nash 3. Allen Iverson

If AI could average 8 assists playing with last yers squad that I definitely think it is possible this season for him to average more. At the same time, a more pass oriented Iverson might not actually be the best thing for the 76ers it just means the other guys have to score some more.
Putting out a goal before a season starts is a great idea, so thumbs up to Mo Cheeks, what a coach. The fact that the teams star player is satisfied with the group of guys he has on his squad is great news. Allen Iverson has one major goal this season, and thats to win a ring and AI will do what ever he can to win it. AI said he'll run through a brick wall if Cheeks told him to so we know AI will be getting those assists this season since Cheeks told him to.
It's gonna be hard to lead the league in Assists when you're leading the league in Field Goal Attempts.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Heat4Life:</div><div class="quote_post">It's gonna be hard to lead the league in Assists when you're leading the league in Field Goal Attempts.</div> Not necessarily Nate ?Tiny" Archibald led the league in points and assists back when he played, and many people compare AI to him so it is very much possibly. Also consider he led the league in field goal attempts this season yet still averaged enough assists to rank 5th in the league. If you recall should you have watched the Pistons series he averaged a double double with ten assists so he can do it. Not to mention this will be the first season in which he will have a solid second scorer in a while I would say probably since Van Horn got traded. Added with the development of Iguodala?s offensive game, Korver, and Dalembert set for a break out season. He will have several scoring options.
I still dont see what everybody's infatuation with seeing AI play point guard...the man is at his best when he's scoring the ball and making things happen opposed to setting up everyone else...the Sixers saw their best success when they had Eric Snow at PG...they need another PG like him...but AI playing PG will not solve any of their problems or lead them any further in the playoffs...can he lead the league in assists? sure, but I'm sure opponents would be just as thrilled to see other Sixers shooting the shots...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">My prediction: 1. Jason Kidd 2. Steve Nash 3. Allen Iverson</div> I'm curious, what makes you think Kidd will average more? I realize PHO lost QRich and JJ, but he's still creating shots and they're still being finished. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">At the same time, a more pass oriented Iverson might not actually be the best thing for the 76ers it just means the other guys have to score some more.</div> What's the difference? Night in and night out they depended on him to contribute points, and when he had an off night the team success suffered. If AI's not feeling it he can still put everyone else in the game.
