Something I would like to say about him When he is consistent and dishes lots of assists then the Rockets win lots of games, but when he doesn't make assists and doesn't score much then we lose, in the Mavs series he had 9 ppg and 4 apg, if we are looking to win 55+ games next season I think he should average much more points and assists than he did last year, oh and his rebounding isn't that bad either. Bob Sura has to be the greatest free agent addition we had last year.
Biggest thing Sura brings is toughness. I never thought toughness alone could have so much impact on one team, but it does. I don't think he needs to average more than 10pts, his main duty should be to set the offense up. Assist, rebound, and make good decisions.
Like Rock4Life said it's his toughness that makes him so important to this team....Bobby is a 6'5 manbeast!!!
yea I love what Sura brings to the Rockets...he can shoot, pass, rebound, and defend...he posted 10/5/5 last season...those are great numbers...we just need him healthy because he's a significant part of this team...
Sura definitely will not score more than he did last season. With the additions of Swift and Anderson, Sura will get less touches and be used mainly for his leadership and stability on the court. Contrary to what many believe, I think Sura is a good passer. Although he might look for his own shot and his court vision might not be the greatest, he does a better job than any other PG on the roster would have, except Ward. However, his size and rebounding game makes him the best option we have at point guard.
It is his rebounding game. If you look at the games he gets every rebound taht drops between the free throw line area to the three point line. There arent many PG that avg he amount of rebounds he does. When mike james started he doesnt get those rebounds that sura does so the opposing team would just get offensive rebounds and the rockets which did poor after a team got its offensive rebound. This is why mutumbo was such a big helper. He blockd everything and crashed the boards like no other.
Sura, hmmm... He absolutely brings heart and rebounding to this team, something that we definately need; and he provided us with a huge lift when he came in at the beginning of last season. You have to admit (although I don't think some in this forum will) that he does bring somewhat of a liability to our team concerning certain aspects of his game. He cannot defend, in fact he is by FAR the worst defender on our team, and he is not good at getting the ball into Yao, even Van Gundy admitted this (on his weekly show on sports radio 610) and even said on a few occasions he had to bring Barry to pick up the slack. His shooting percentage isn't bad and we can't forget those two clutch three's that Sura hit down the stretch of the Mavericks game in the playoffs which was the sole reason we stayed in that game, but every time I see him take a shot I find myself cringing and closing my eyes. His lack of quickness in keeping up with premiere point gaurds in this league is a big concern of mine, not to mention his inability to stay healthy and provide consistant minutes. In short, he was a good player on a good team last year, but is Bob going to be the conductor of team that is to win a championship? I guess only time will tell.
Yeah I love Sura. As much of a Rockets fan as I am, none of the players are really my favourite. If i owned a rockets jersey, it would be a Sura jersey. I've got a yao ming one and will get the tmac one when i go overseas, but Sura is what I really want. Can't find one though. I agree that he is the heart of the team. He hustles like crazy, and how well the rockets are doing seems to be based on how well sura is doing.
I do believe with what Rock4Life said. He's the playmaker not the Superstar...If that made sense. If not, what I'm saying is that Sura needs to be the Leader of the Offense call the right plays get the rebounds and play harder than ever.
that job is taken. The leader of the offense is tracy mcgrady and the play calling is done by JVG. of course. sura's contrinution is needed with the rebounds but his turnovers concern me. He is great when there is no pressure but if the game is on the line hes prone to turn the ball over. He is a great guy to talk to. I went to the memphis rockets game and he was a fun loving guy. I can see why locker problems are not an issue for this team.
It's hard because I want to say Bobby is more suited as a 2-guard but he has the skills to be a nice PG...I like his size and toughness at the PG, but he's not as quick as other points...I hope he's worked on his shooting a little more this offseason because if he can hit anywhere from 37-40 percent of his treys, he'll be invaluable to us...
Haha i can't think of sura without thinking of his open field tackling abilities. He's a linebacker in a point guards body!!!
I think kfrumHTOWN! was referring to Sura's bear hug tacle on Josh Howard in the playoffs. I think that move definitely showed a lot about Sura's toughness and leadership. Howard was playing dirty on Yao and Sura stood up for him as a leader of the team and as an enforcer. Although it speaks volumes about Yao's passiveness, I would commend Sura on the actions he took.
yea bobby sura is tough, and i saw him in teh slam dunk contest in 93 i think. boy he looks different

As much as I love Tmac, Sura will be the one to step up and lay a hard foul on the other team. I kinda get the feelin the Rockets might be a little soft without Sura.
I think that this team IS tough, with or without sura...they are mentally tough, and thats all that is important...we have some passionate, experienced veterans like Howard, Sura, Barry, and Wesley who are calm and poised under pressure...its a great change from the Mobley-Francis days when I dreaded seeing what we were gonna do with under 2 minutes left to go in the game...
I remember seeing a couple of games last year and thought that this guy really should get more props. On more than one ocasion I saw a missed shot fall in the lane right into Sura's hands with lots of guys just standing there. I hope he can stay healthy because he makes the Rockets great to watch in the PG position.
Sura is a great player , but i think he should get more ball to Yao instead of driving layup sometimes.
