<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Negotiations between the Bulls and restricted free agent center Eddy Curry are already messy and may only get messier. The team is exploring what options it has to require Curry to take a DNA test before practice begins Oct. 4, whether Curry eventually accepts the Bulls? contract offer or signs the one-year qualifying offer worth $5.14 million. ?There?s new language in the collective bargaining agreement in terms of what we can do in a physical (exam),? Bulls general manager John Paxson said. ?I can?t say anything beyond that.? A DNA test was recommended by Minneapolis-based cardiologist Dr. Barry Maron and others as a way to see if Curry is genetically disposed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal condition when combined with arrhythmia. Curry sat out the end of last season after experiencing arrhythmia, commonly known as an irregular heartbeat, before a March 30 game at Charlotte. He resumed basketball activity in early July, but the NBA?s insurance carrier declined to cover Curry?s next contract in the event a heart problem forces him to retire.</div> Source
I kind of want curry to be gone after next year, but i have a feeling that hes gonna accept that deal that pax offered him. I dont blame curry for trying to fight for his future and for his reputation as an healthy athelete. And u cant blame Pax for being cautious, but I just want this to be over. I cant wait till october when this drama will come to a close. Go Bulls!
I can't fathom why Curry and his agent will not agree to genetic testing for his heart condition. It smacks of greed to me. If Curry does have a genetic predisposition for a serious heart condition then he needs to step away from the game and spend the rest of his days living a full life. It would be horrible to see him go down during the season and become another Hank Gathers/Reggie Lewis.
Curry going through a DNA test is common sense and benefits everyone. If he is fine, he'll get a much larger contract then he can right now, and teams will show more interest. If it turns out he has this potentially fatal condition, then teams will know the risk they are getting into. But more importantly, Curry will be able to evaluate his own future, because that is a serious condition.
Yeah i agree with you guys statements but I think that money has nothing to do with why he hasnt tested. Eddie has gone thru alot this year and I dont think that he could handle it if the tests came back posative. Its just fear guys. This ddudes life is hanging in the balance, hes afraid that this test could officially end his career. GL Eddie Go Bulls!
