<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Fort Worth Flyers, of the NBA Developmental League, will have an NBA affiliate right down the road and another that is one of the league's most storied franchises, NBA officials announced Monday.

Under the affiliation and assignment system, each of the eight league teams will be affiliated with three or four NBA teams. The Flyers' affiliates are the Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers.

"It's a momentous day," said David Kahn, principal owner of Southwest Basketball, LLC, which operates the Fort Worth, Austin, Tulsa and Albuquerque NBDL teams. "I hope, for the folks of Fort Worth, it further demonstrates our credibility. We've been saying this for months, and I'm happy to report that we're delivering on the promises we've been making."

NBA teams can assign players who are in their first two seasons to play in the D-League, helping to prevent young players from primarily sitting on the bench during their early years.

"These affiliations and assignment systems will, for the players, provide them with the opportunity to get playing time," said Stu Jackson, the NBA's senior vice president of basketball operations.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he intends to take a wait-and-see approach.

"It's not safe to assume that we will even use the NBDL affiliation," Cuban said. "We want to make sure that their programs and the way they would use any players we assign actually help the player."

Under the system, an NBA team can assign any player on its "active" or "inactive" lists to play in the D-League, provided the player has no more than two years of service at the time of the assignment. There is a limit of three assignments per player per season, but there is no minimum or maximum length of an assignment.

During the 2005-06 season, no NBA team can have more than two players on assignment at the same time, and an assigned player will be carried on the NBA team's inactive list.

The affiliation system, which will be reviewed after the season, will be adjusted if additional teams are added.</div>

I hope the NBDL expands to SoCal, a location like San Diego or Las Vegas would be a lot better than Fort Worth.

Positives: The head coach is Sam Vincent who played for PJax, and is a stickler for teaching the fundamentals of basketball.

I think this is a new team for the upcoming season, so there is no roster set yet. Should be interesting to see who ends up on the squad.
