<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As if the Miami Heat wasn't already loaded with recognizable, veteran names, the team is about to add one more.

To fill a void at point guard, the Heat will sign 15-year veteran Gary Payton to a one-year contract today, according to his agent, Aaron Goodwin.

Payton flew into Miami late Wednesday and will take a physical and sign the minimum $1.1 million deal today. For the second time in his career, Payton will join a Shaquille O'Neal-led team in hopes of winning his first title. The previous time the two joined forces was in the 2003-04 season with the Lakers, when Los Angeles lost to the Pistons in five games in the NBA Finals.

Payton will join a similar team in Miami, with Dwyane Wade, Jason Williams and Payton's former Celtics teammate Antoine Walker also in place for a title run.</div>

We've all known that there was zero chance of a GP return this year.

I guess seeing him try to steal a championship in Miami isn't surprising. Best of luck to him and Toine.

They could be very good or they could implode and have cat fights by mid-season. Which would likely mean SVG would get the chop. Be interesting to see which way the Heat go.

Don't we all know what happened the last time GP signed cheaply to play with Shaq? This Miami team continues to remind me of the 03-04 Lakers

precisely...it seems like Miami is just stockpiling NAMES, not talent...on paper, they look great, but I dont see how this team will do as far as chemistry...they acquired nice players but those players have a past of causing locker room problems and chemistry issues...

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheTruth5:</div><div class="quote_post">Since im assuming none of us can see the future..who are we to say they will have a bad chemistry?</div>Well, seeing as though only one of the six best players on the team hasn't had a history of creating locker room distractions, I think chemistry just might be a problem. I, personally, don't think it'll be enough of a problem to stop them from at least getting to the finals.

I agree with what your saying and im glad you mentioned it wont be a big enough problem to stop them from getting to the finals. In my previous post I meant like some people are already saying they will be horrible, and they are saying with that lineup it will ruin everything we had, Me I think thats a horrible suggestion how can you doubt a line-up and start raggin on them before you have seen them play together? Yes, the Heat might have chemistry problems but thats not guaranteed and that certainly doesnt mean they will do poorly. Saying we will have chemistry problems thats fine but saying we will do bad because of this trade thats stupid.

So...the names we have on our roster don't have talent? Then how did they get there names? Ya some of it was negative stuff(GP) but mostly it was talent and this team has plenty of it how can you deny that.

They got to the finals...im glad you think we will to [IMG] But seriously this team is the complete opposite of the 03-04 Lakers many people have proved this in arguments and I certainly have more then once, if you cant see the difference I feel sad for you.

I'm starting to open up to the Gary Payton move. If JWill starts getting wild GP can come in and be the floor general when he needs to. I htink he will be a good teachewr for Williams and I htink he will help Wade out by getting him the ball. I htink GP wants a title more than anyhting else and he wil play however we need him to play.

If Payton is willing to accept his role as a reserve, which he said he would then its a good signing. However if Payton remains his cocky self, he could be a disruption in the locker room.
