There is noise out of Los Angeles that a serious deal may be brewing. The original thought was a sign and trade for Eddy Curry, though if you believe the reports out of Chicago, the Lakers are not actively negotiating with the Bulls.

I can make a very credible argument that the Lakers are indeed close to landing Eddy Curry, but that doesn't make it any more true than . . . the Lakers are about to land Kevin Garnett.

To be fair, I've sat on rumors that the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves were in talks all summer. I never took them seriously.

Why would the Wolves trade Garnett to a conference rival?

It sounds too good to be true . . . or is it?

Yeah Minnesota isn't dumb enough to trade Garnett while he is still productive. If Garnett really wants to go, he might be able to demand a trade, like Shaq's case, or play horribly, like Carter's case. The problem is that LA might not be lucky enough to pick him up.

so is this thread about Curry or Garnett? We aren't going to get Garnett, and we wouldn't want Curry.

Curry would have to lose some poundage to make him somewhat valuable.

In either deal, what do your figure the Lakers would give up? Do you think that it woud be Lamar and some others for KG? What about for the Curry deal?

Yea, the Lakers have little to give up in either deal.Lamar might be a little too much for Curry but what else will you send with him if you were to offer a package for KG?

I just dont think the Lakers have the young talent that others do to offer other teams for big name players. They would have to beat offers from teams with stockpiled young talent; the Clippers could offer Brand, Maggette, Kaman, + picks. The Warriors could offer J-Rich, Murphy, Biedrins/Ike Diogu, + a couple of our 7 stockpiled picks over the next 2 years. Celtics could offer Pierce, Al Jefferson, Allen, and a ton of other young talents. Really, the best the Lakers could do is Odom, Bynum, Turiaf, + fillers and picks and i dont know if either side bites on that.

Lamar and Devean George plus cash for KG would work, but it would leave a gaping hole at SF.

JJ and Luke would still be here along with Devin Green if he does well.

No way do the Wolves bite, maybe if you throw in Bynum but even then i dont think that would be a great offer.

    it was a suggestion.

no need to be sarcastic with your duncan trade comment.

but anyways, i heard it was a 3-way trade between LA, Minny, and Chicago.
i read it from CL yesterday i think...i'll post the link or something if you all want....

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting from CL Boards:</div><div class="quote_post">
From ESPN Minnesota T-Wolves message boards.....

    Quote:
"LA getting KG in 3 way trade:

For Odom from LA and Curry from Chicago in a three-way trade going down . Mihm goes to Chicago with Sprewell(T-Wolves sign and trade), Pike goes to LA, and George and Vlad's expiring contract goes to the T-Wolves. You can't get fair value for KG, unless your getting Duncan back, but Odom is a great player, and Curry is a sold center and a new outlook and future for Minny. Pretty good trade for all teams.

    </div>

    still all speculation though...
it would be nice to have KG...but i doubt this will happen.
    who knows....

Why would the Lakers want Eddy Curry? We already have one unproven big man (yes, I am a huge Kwame fan, but it's no secret that he hasn't proven himself). There is no point in trading for Eddy, we already have enough projects developing and with Curry's heart problem, it's too big of a risk in my opinion.

I would jump on the trade of getting Curry if we don't have to give either Kobe, Odom, Brown, and Mihm. If we can make that trade I would be all for it risk or no risk. Mihm is a better defensive player and rebounder. Curry is a pretty good offensive player though. We would have an awesome Center duo of Curry and Mihm. That wouldn't force us to go with Brown at Center and move Odom to power forward. But we can't give up those 4 guys.

Ohh and I forgot about Bynum. Those 5 guys are untouable if we are getting Curry.

If Minnesota trades Kevin Garnett, then it would make the Lakers an instant playoff team. I don't see it happening with the Kwame Brown deal and the rumors of Kevin Garnett bulking up to play PF. If it did go down Minnesota would get the worst end of that deal.

I think the 3-way deal is supposed to be...

Lakers acquire Kevin Garnett & Eric Piatkowski
Bulls acquire Chris Mihm, Latrell Sprewell
TWolves acquire Lamar Odom, Eddy Curry, Devean George, & Vlade Divac

If Eddy Curry didn't have the health concerns, then I could see this as a possibility. However, he's too, much of a risk for the TWolves to even get involved, especially at the cost of trading KG.

Something else I found out (unverified), is KG has a "no-trade" clause in his contract. This would benefit the Lakers, and a few select teams, because KG can dictate where he wants to be traded to.

Another bad year for the T-Wolves makes this deal all the more possible.
