I remember when people were talking about whether Jerry Rice would catch 3 or 4 touchdowns in a week. Now it's about whether he will be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. How times have changed. Jerry was the greatest, but he is making a mockery of a great career by trying to play too long. At least that's my opinion.
Hes an awsome player. I like him so much. i rember I was like 9 and I was at my uncles house(he like the packers) ot was the 49ers vs the Packers. Wow that was an awsome game but Rice had to win it with a TD. He should stop playing.
It would have been great to see Tim Brown and Jerry Rice, probly the two best recievers to be inducted in the same year into the HOF

The Seahawk and now Bronco run is kind of ruining some of his sucess to critics. Either way he is top of my list for best players of all time.
well despite him playing for too long nothing can take away what he has done with teh 49ers. He'll be in the hof no matter how long he plays.
Personally, I don't think he is ruining his career. How many athletes in the top condition of their lives couldn't be a 3rd or 4th receiver, yet Rice is almost a no-brainer. The longevity of his career is only adding to its greatness, regardless of the production.
Im just thinking tht he might hurt himself. Hes getting old and will probably be feeling sore after each game. I think he could still play but only on red zone plays. I dont think hes really fast at all.

I look at how many guys are coming out of college or NFL Europe or coming in as street free agents just trying to make an NFL squad on special teams! It's only because Rice has been regarded at the greatest ever that people are holding him to a different standard. If he still "can" play and he "wants to play," then he should play. Rice just moved up to #3 on the Broncos' depth chart, by the way. He could easily catch 30 balls or more this year in that offense. If that's what he wants to do, he should do it.
Definately think he shoulod go till his body falls apart. He is a workout king, he will be in good shape. How many people get the oppertunity to play in the NFL? Not many, so relish, love it, and hold on as long as you can. I dont know about tim brown being one of 2 best recievers in league. I am not sure he is HOF reciever.
I think you guys are making a great point. Jerry Rice's legacy should be his passion for the game and not his numbers. I know he may not be contributing huge numbers anymore, but how many young players is he teaching how to be a PROFESSIONAL football player? Every Bronco, veterans included, should keep their eyes on Rice this year and try to absorb as much as they can. I do think it's amazing that Rice in his forties can still play pro ball.
I think Rice should have gone to Kansas City this year, rather than Denver. He'd be a lock to be the #2 or #3 receiver in that Wide Receiver hell...

I mean the guy's older than Jeff Fischer and Jack Del Rio isn't he? Seriously, I love Jerry. He WAS the best, but he is a shadow of his former self and as I said, my opinion is that he is damaging his legacy and should step down. Rod Smith isn't exactly in his prime anymore either, and Jerry still couldn't beat him out. Many of you are saying as long as Jerry can perform at a professional level that he should enjoy a continuation of his career. I am merely saying I don't think he plays at a professional level anymore.
