I'm curious to see how teams will play us this year. We have so many offensive threats that if you double team someone the rest of the guys can carry the scoring load. What are your thoughts on how teams will play defensively against our high powered team.
My guess is teams who are very good defensively (Pistons, Spurs, etc.) will play the Heat like they would any other team because they are loaded with good individual defenders. Teams who arent as good at defending may use a good amount of zone defense, and will probably dare the Heat to shoot 3 pointers. If J-Will and Toine' are dared to take a ton of 3 pointers the Heat could defeat themselves.
It must be extremely tough to defend our team this year, with all the offensive firepower we have. It will be a tough matchup for most teams but Im sure the defensive specialist teams like the Spurs and Pistons will find a way. It will be interesting to see how our opponents react to us.
For the sake of arguement I'll use the rockets. They aren't known for their defense, but their coach is. JVG will probably put yao 1 on 1 with shaq unless shaq starts to dominate. Dwayne wade will probably get the double team because wesley and anderson can't keep up with him. As for walker and haslem, stromile can gaurd them on the outside, but at the 3 for walker I don't know. Jwill will be gaurded by the point gaurd. As for posey, He isn't much of an offensive threat as the others. The specific zone i see for the Rockets is a zone we use in high school. If their center is one of the best players then we do 2-2-1 zone meaning the 1 is for the center and he goes 1 on 1 while the other 4 players go in the zone.
some teams will play a zone, many teams don't think the Heat could beat a man to man zone. Not as many shooters as last year. Plenty of guys who want the ball can sometimes hurt. Smart defensive teams will let guys like Williams, Walker, Payton try and take over the offense. Shots Wade and Shaq don't take the better. The Heat won't be easy to defend but they won't be as hard as one would imagine. A better question would be how do the Heat play on guarding other teams? mainly if Williams and Walker see quite abit of time togeather.
Well, this team has great speed but they may have trouble on defense. I think that's why the duo of Posey and Haslem should start. I hitnk we can run a man or a zone, but wiht such great shooting in the East i think they will stick to man.
Zone...force Williams and Walker to beat us with 3s...force Wade into a jump-shooter and force Haslem to score on baseline jumpers...deny the inside...or, let shaq get his, and stick on the other 4...other than wade, no one else is going to beat you 1-on-1...so let shaq get his but make it tough and contested while everyone else doesnt develop a flow or rhythm for the game...

If Williams, Walker and etc wouldn't be able to make jumpshots or 3pts the Heat will have a problem
Every defense is going to focus on the weakness of the Heat's offense. The best way to beat the Heat will be pressuring the ball and forcing the Heat to work against the shot clock. The player guarding DWade, better be able to deny him from getting his touches. Teams need to bait JWill and Walker into receiving the ball as the shot clock winds down so they are forced to shoot the ball. What makes the Heat difficult to defend is the passing ability of every starter on the floor. All five players have passing skills and are experienced at passing out of double teams.
