<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InsideHoops.com:</div><div class="quote_post">InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner reports that the Los Angeles Lakers are still actively working to gain the services of Latrell Sprewell. The Lakers need backcourt help, and according to his agent, Spree would love to be next to Kobe Bryant.</div> http://www.insidehoops.com/sprewell-lakers-092605.shtml
Sprewell is an unrestricted free agent. The reason there would be a trade is to sign and trade Sprewell from the Wolves so that he can get a bigger contract. The Lakers can only offer him what is left of their MLE(2.5 Million) and he wants more than that. Because Sprewell's last team was the Wolves they are allowed to sign him to a bigger contract. The Wolves probably won't be getting much more than a draft pick and a 3rd string bench player for him but it'll still be better than losing him for nothing, which is why it is very likely there will be a small sign and trade deal.
