But one of the people knowledgeable about Pennington's situation said the team is holding out hope that Fiedler won't have to be placed on injured reserve.

    Pennington, who returned to the field only seven months after surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff, got the devastating news yesterday that he may need another operation. There was fear last night among those close to Pennington that he tore the same rotator cuff again, which would be a serious threat to his career.
